PBR Barrelmen

Though a PBR barrelman's attire is similar to that of a bullfighter, his presence in the arena serves a much different purpose. A barrelman's duty is to entertain the crowd during the “down time” that is inherent to the sport of bull riding. When bulls are being loaded or the show is on hold due to live television breaks, a barrelman takes over and amuses spectators with impromptu dance routines or comical dialogue with the event's announcers. The barrelman often can be found hanging around or in a custom-made barrel placed in the arena's center. The barrel not only protects the barrelman from a charging bull but also provides bull riders with an island of safety if he is bucked off far from the arena fence or bucking chutes.

2002 World Champion Barrelman Flint Rasmussen is a man of many talents. To the delight of fans from coast-to-coast, Flint gave up his career as a high school math and history teacher to travel the professional rodeo and bull riding circuit full-time. Rasmussen’s originality, quick wit and humor are unparalleled. Rasmussen, a former drama and track star, combines his comedic talents and natural athleticism to entertain and generally captivate the crowd at packed arenas all over the country. Rasmussen was an all-state football player in high school, participating in band and choir as well. While attending Western Montana College in Dillon, he was a member of the jazz choir, played intra-mural sports, and worked the microphone as a public address announcer during college football and basketball games. Flint and his wife, Katie, make their home on “Cowboy Way” Road in Choteau, Mont. with their two daughters, Shelby Rae, 6, and Paige 4.
