KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 7, 2010) - Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) rode Carrillo Cartel (4C’s/Sills/HD Bucking Bulls) for 91.5 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round to win the 2010 Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Invitational on Sunday at the Sprint Center. It is the second event win of the year for Meier, who also finished first in Winston-Salem, N.C.

“Kansas City has always treated me well, but this is the best ever. It feels great. I drew great bulls and when you’re hot, you’re hot,” said Meier. “I am taking it one week at a time and one ride at a time. I just want to stay focused and keep it in perspective. If I can do that and stay healthy then I feel I can win a world title.”

The Oklahoman, who rode Kool-N-Sexy (D&H Cattle Company) for 87.25 points in Round 3, wins $31,604 for the event and moves into third place in the 2010 PBR BFTS season standings. Meier was selected on Saturday to represent the United States in the 2010 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies, the PBR’s premier international event, which comes to the United States for the first time ever on April 16-18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

“The World Cup is a great honor,” said Meier. “It is the Olympics for bull riding and I feel that we can go to Las Vegas and win for the United States.”

There were four 90-point rides in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round beginning with J. B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.), who scored 90.5 on Big Tex (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Stru). Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) took the overall event lead after riding Crosswired (D&H Cattle Co./Clifton Wiggins) for 90.5 points.

Shivers was moved from the top of the leaderboard when Ben Jones (Sunset, Texas) rode Kabookie (Boyd/Floyd Bull Company) for 90 points. It was the second 90-point ride in a row for Jones, who finished first and won $2,730 in Round 3 with 90 points on RFD-TV (Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC/RFDTV, LLC). Jordan Hupp (Cheyenne, Wyo.) then rode Chance (Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC) for 89.5 points and briefly held the event lead before Meier’s ride.

This event was definitely a really good show with a lot of rides this week. I am glad Austin won I was pulling for him at the DIC but he didnt do so well atleast I got to talk to him for a minute and signature/pics. I know Ryan Mcconnel hasnt been riding good because his dad is not doing well health wise, we sat next to him at the DIC.
I hope to get more pics and signatures at this weekends Challenger tour in Mesquite with Cord Mccoy and Rob Smets.

    Good Luck in Glendale!

The challenge of champions that Lane won was set up to take place over several months. Lane got on Red Rock as kind of an exhibition ride at predermined rodeos it was during the spring and summer of 1988. The Rodeos were in California Oregon and Utah. Red Rock bucked off 309 riders to retire unridden. In 1986 he bucked off Lane in the 10th round before that Lane was 9 for 9 Red Rock kept him from being the first guy to go 10 for 10. It also cost Lane the PRCA World Championship.
The Challenge of Champions was as follows
    Match 1 April 17, 1988
    Red Bluff Ca Buck off
    Match 2 April 24, 1988
    Clovis Ca. Buck off
    Match 3 May 20, 1988
    Redding Ca, Ride
    Match 4 June 11, 1988
    Livermore Ca, Ride
    Match 5 June 12, 1988
    Sisters Or, Ride
    Match 6 July 4, 1988
    St. Paul Oregon, Buck off
    Match 7 July 25, 1988
    Spanish Fork Utah Ride
Lane won 4-3, the judges stop watch at spanish fork read 9.63 seconds when Lane stepped off him.

KANSAS CITY: With the combination of BFTS, KC P/L District and Big Sky,that was the best PBR
event I have ever attended in over 40 events. You did a excellent job, very organized and very
friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to 2011 in KC. GREAT JOB.

Howdy, I do think that JB didnt ride his bull again, and judges gave to him a lot of points. Big Tex jump for 5 sec to the front and them he started spin, and JB was out of position most of the time. OVERSCORED AGAIN, and 7.8 sec AGAIN......
    Way to go Ben Jones................

Wait, No conspiracy theories this weekend? What is this world coming to? I know they're lurking out there just waiting to stick it to JB and the judges. The riders all did an excellent job this weekend.

Lane got on Red Rock 7 times for the challenge of champions he rode him 4 out of 7 times to win the challenge. I think he only got on him 2 or 3 times at rodeos in terms of drawing himn during his career. He never rode him in an actual rodeo and Red Rock was retired unridden with a rediculous amount of buck offs. As far as the most times someone has drafted/drawn the same bull over and over again I don't know what the record would be.

Congrats to Austin on a great win. Gotta give a hats off to Ben Jones though as well. Not just 1 but 2 90 point rides on the same day. That was awesome. My daughter does his dance and drives my wife crazy with it everytime Ben rides. LOL. I hope that JW picks Jordan Hupp to the US team for the World Cup. He truely deserves it. To all the cowboys who got injured this weekend you will be in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Glad to see Kody back to riding well again. Hope it continues.

congrats to Austin Meier on his second win.....he's an awesome young man for sure.

also congrats to my favorite Kody Lostroh going 3 for 4. He's one of the most polite and likeable young men you'de ever hope to meet...as is Wiley Petersen and Josh Koschel...Hoping both will be back in Rapid City ,S.D. for Kody's invitational in April...had the great pleasure of meeting these 3 guys and they are totally outstanding....

Best wishes to Mike White on his retirement....enjoy your family and home time...

Prayers go out to all the guys that are hurt and on the injury list....Hopefully you will be on the mend soon...

What an awesome weekend, the family is headed back home and we are back to peace and quiet. My sister-in-law from Florida won the Ristol hat Friday night and carried it Saturday and Sunday to add signatures. After the event on Saturday we were riding the elevator from the upper balcony when a gentleman entered, said something to the operator and we went up instead of down. Who gets on but Justin McBride. My Oklahoma sister-in-law elbowed me and my jaw dropped. After 3 years, I finally got Justin to sign my PBR jacket. I now have the 2000 to 2008 World Champions signatures on the sleeves. I hope to get Kody's in Wichita.

Congrats to all the guys for an excellent weekend of bull riding!
But on to a more serious note: Everyone please keep CBR Bull Rider Casey Bowman in your thoughts & prayers. Casey was stepped on Saturday night at the CBR Ft. Worth event & was transported to the hospital with 3 broken ribs & a punctured lung. He was moved out of ICU last night but might have a possible lung infection. I will update once I hear anything.

    Peace, Love and Happiness~

So delighted with Austin's win--what a gutsy ride. He's been one of my favorite riders since the '08 season. It took some of the sting out of tears shed over Mike White's departure from the sport. He clearly captured fans' hearts with his combination of toughness and rock solid character. They won't be replacing him, ever.

I'm glad everyone is commenting about Ben Jones. I wanted to show a friend of mine his "dance",
so I figured I'd go on You Tube and find something posted there but the only video was really
bad so if somebody could let me know where there's a great Ben Jones video clip I'd appreciate
you posting it. Although I must say the dance really looks great up on the big screen at the
PBR events. I'm hopping on the bandwagon with everybody else and hoping for something big from
Ben at the Finals this year! The crowd sure loves that dance-look out Flint!!

I was so sorry Robson didn't take Kansas City and that Valdiron got hurt. My Brazilians didn't fair too well this week-end. Marchi only rode one bull. I was glad to see Austin win, if Robson
didn't. And Ben Jones was awesome!! He is so nice. I was extremely disappointed that
Valdiron is now in 2nd place. However, not by much. Less than 200 points. Hopefully he'll
take 1st back. He is so sweet and humble. Also, watching the dancing horse was neat- LOL.
Anyway, if you missed the church service on Sunday, you missed something very special!!

This was one of the best events of the year so far. Glad so many were able to cover their bulls
and make points as well as money. It was a weekend for big rides, high scores, that always makes
it exciting. Congrats to Austin on his second win of the year. Boy, Jordan Hupp is really comning
on strong, I love to hear him talk, he sounds more like a singer than a bull rider with that voice
of his. So happy for J.B. to get a good ride, it sure helps ones confidence. All in all a very
    good weekend of bull riding.

alade3746: Oh, I miss seeing Cord too! He needs to start raking in the Touring Pro $$$s so we can see him again. There's a nice interview with Mike White after his last ride, so I'm sure you'll enjoy that.

Shannon: I laughed out loud when I read you post about Ben Jones winning an event!! Oh My Gosh!! He'll be beside himself!! Can't wait to see it happen!! I have to tape the events because we go to bed early for our jobs and then we watch it the next day. I'm almost dreading watching Mike White's last ride knowing I'll never see him again. He and Cord McCoy have been my two favorites for years and now they're both "gone". But in the same breath I have always followed Wiley and Austin (good job Austin, you are awesome) and now Ben Jones. Guess they are my new favorites. But before I watch the event where's that box of kleenex?

Had such a wonderful time this weekend in Kansas City. Every show was so exciting. Congrats
to Robson for his win in round #2. There were a lot of great rides and celebrations. You
haven't truly experienced the "Ben Jones Jig" until you see it live! WOW Versus didn't show
the reason why he was up on the shark cage dancing but he actually starting his celebration
on the dirt and the bull decided to run his direction so he just stopped and jumped up on
the cage and finished. It was PRICELESS! He always leaves Flint speachless after his dance.
A great ride and very deserving of the win in round #3.

Also enjoyed spending time with the "Twiggy's" during the weekend.

Hey Twiggy I guess Mr. Big Stuff didn't know that he was messin' with us "Bad Girls"! What,
no memories of the show????? Now who's laughing! :)

Hey, Joan, you should be happy today. Your boy is back!
I think this was by far the best event this year. It's going to be interesting to see how long
anyone can hold that nbr. 1 spot. The way these guys are riding it could change every week.

Awesome bullriding this weekend!!!!! I was so glad to be there on Sat. I do have a complaint but does not have anything to do with the Bullriders it has to do with the pre-event fan zone... it was very unorganized compared to the one I went to in Nashville and I hate to say that since Missouri is my home state....The Sprint employees should be more informed with whats going on as well as the volunteers.... We had been late in 15 minutes before doors open wow everything seemed to be going great we went to the PBR fan club booth and they acted like they was not sure why we all gathered there, they then took us down stairs to where they was going to do the taping of the fanzone and interview with one of the riders. Ok not bad until they tell us its going to be over an hour before this happens nobody told us we could go back up to the concourse and come back down so for over an hour we set there talking to some other fanclub members that couldnt believe it was going to take this long..... Then when they was going to do the interview the mic would never work I understand malfunctions but geez have a back up plan.... I really think whoever organized this one should take lessons from Nashville and I look forward to going to Nashville again in Aug. As for the show and the riders loved it awesome bulls and cowboys .... Still love the PBR just think the fanzone could have been better at this event >>>>>

What a great weekend! The guys are really pushing each other and the quality of the bulls is great. It is nice to be discussing the nuts and bolts of the PBR and not the hype/drama.

Congrats to Austin, J.B., Ned Cross, Ben Jones, etc., and Gilbert Carrillo. Great weekend for all.

Another great event. KC always puts on a great show, especially in IMO one of the nicest new venues the PBR's been to.

Lots of 90-plus-point bull rides in this event, always an excellent thing to see. I'm happy for Austin - he's really stepping it up! Watch out, JB - soon you may have Austin breathing down your neck if he keeps riding like this!

Heh, I had no idea Skeeter's actual name was Keith. :-) You learn something new every day.

I'm really sad to see Mike White go. I was hoping he'd last the entire year (even if he would've been cut after this event), but I guess it was the right thing for him to do. If he keeps getting hurt and his heart's not in it anymore, then I guess it was just time for him to walk away. He will be sorely missed. That said, I hope Shivers doesn't decide to retire soon, either, but he may start thinking about it a bit more with White leaving.

It is so great to see such great rides by Austin Meier, Ben Jones, Ned Cross, Jordan Huff, Chris Shivers and Robson Palermo. I really felt bad for Robson it was his to win until his bull rope came out and Ben Jones, how could anyone not route for him. He is so much fun to watch. I saw him at a food court at Winston's event and he was filling up on fries and a burger.

I was finally thrilled to see JB back in action. Great ride on Big Tex and glad to see him move to number one again. That has to help in his mental game. I sure hope his injries will get better.

We have so many new and healthy riders with Jordan Hupp and Jody Newberry and then Mike Lee being healthy and riding so good, all this does is cause the other riders to step up their game. It all makes very good bull riding by so many of the bull riders.

The saddest thing at the event was Mike White retiring. A great bull rider and such a good example for the PBR and oher bull riders. I sure hope we will see him at different events comentating. It brought tears to my eyes to see him walk out of the arena for the last at the BFTS. I will miss his great smile.

It was a great second win for Austin. He has been so dedicated and has conditioned himself and worked toward these wins. He deserves the victories.

    Shannon K,
Too funny...your thought of what would happen if Ben Jones won an event!?!

Congratulations to Austin Meier! Excellent 2nd win! So happy that he is on the World Cup team too!

Haven't gotten to watch last night's round yet, but it sure sounds exciting!!! Can't wait to see JB on Big Tex, Chris on Crosswired, Austin on Carillo Cartel and Ben Jones on Kabookie.

Personally, I am sad that Kody did not ride Deja Blu but am thrilled that he did ride 3 bulls this weekend and has moved up in the standings. I hope the tape job on his elbow helped, and further injury did not occur! Keep it going Kody!!!

Wow! Ben Jones had--count 'em--two 90 pt. rides in back-to-back rounds. How great is that?! Congrats to all reaching the 90 pt. mark in K.C.

Shout out to Austin for covering all of his bulls, having a 90 pointer and takign his second event. Yes, stay safe & healthy, Austin; doing so is not essential as we've seen in the past, but it can be crucial.

Was GREAT to have Justin & Justin announcing. Love to have the two Justins in the booth. McBride, you're are simply awesome :) Both have great senses of humor. McBride was "right on" with his comments after Leah's interview with JB. Thanks Justin. You reaffirmed why so far you are my all-time favorite :)

I thought this weekend was one of the best events so far! Lots of good rides! Lots of rank bulls bucking hard! Congrats to Austin!! YAY! Two event wins already, keep it up! :) So happy for Jordan Hupp & Ben Jones, they did great! Ben Jones by far has the best victory routine. JB on Big Tex was exciting to watch! Glad to see he stepped it up back at #1, for now anyway. The way the standings have been changing lately you'll never know who'll be in the top next! Makes it all that more exciting I think! Too bad Mike Lee didn't make it on Uncle Buck... he's getting better though. I'm sure he'll ride him soon.

Sad to hear Valdiron & Travis couldn't ride in the end. All the injury reports make me sad, but they don't call the PBR the toughest sport on EARTH for nothin! :) I already miss seeing Brian Canter in the chutes! Hope all the riders with injuries get better and heal fast!

We met "Dancin' Man" Ben Jones at one of the PBR meet & greets. I don't think you could meet a nicer. unpretentious guy! We're really happy to see him doing well and we're getting to look forward to that dance!Congratulations to all with those 90+ rides. Good to see JB getting his concentration back! We're looking forward to a great year for all the riders (we love 'em all)and hoping for few injuries and quick recoveries!

Congratulations to Austin on another win! I really enjoyed watching his ride on Carrillo Cartel. And how great is Jordan Hupp riding?!? He's #18 after having attended only three events!

While watching tonight, I had a horrible thought. What on earth will Ben Jones do should he ever win an event? Oh, the possibilities :). Hopefully we'll be able to find out one day.

I wonder what the record is for most matchups between a particular rider and bull. I think I remember hearing that Lane Frost attempted Red Rock seven times, though that wouldn't have been in the PBR. Anyway, Mike Lee has to be getting close to the record with his persistence in picking Uncle Buck. I hope he rides him next time!
