LAS VEGAS (March 6, 2010) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) is excited to announce that the five national captains have selected the first 10 competitors for the 2010 World Cup.

The 2010 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies, the PBR’s premier international event, comes to the United States for the first time ever. All of the action will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas from April 16-18.

Captain J.W. Hart (Marietta, Okla.) has named Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) and McKennon Wimberly (Cool, Texas) to Team USA, while Adriano Moraes (Cachoeiera Paulista, SP, Brazil) has chosen Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) and Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) as the first two members for Team Brazil.

Cody Snyder (Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada) has selected Aaron Roy (Asquith, Saskatchewan, Canada) and Scott Schiffner (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada) for Team Canada, while Team Australia captain Troy Dunn (Queensland, Australia) has named brothers Jared and Pete Farley (Kempsey, NSW, Australia). The first two members selected for Team Mexico are Rocky McDonald (Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico) and Gustavo Pedrero (Jalisco, Mexico). Selections for Mexico are being made by Amando Aguirre, President of the Mexican Federation of Rodeo, and Ruben Mujica, President of Cuernos Chuecos, a Mexican bull riding league. The coach for Mexico will be Gerardo Venegas (Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico).

The three-night event will allow fans the opportunity to watch world-class rides during six rounds of action. The 25 riders will all compete in each round, meaning that fans will have the opportunity to watch at least 50 show-stopping rides each night. The top three scores for each country in each round will count toward the team total. The team accumulating the most points during the six rounds will be declared the winner.

The United States is the two-time defending champion, while Brazil won in 2007. The event debuted in 2007 in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and was held in Chihuahua, Mexico, in 2008, and Barretos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2009.

Hotel rooms and packages can be reserved at Treasure Island, the official host hotel of the 2010 PBR World Cup presented by Dickies. Not only will Treasure Island be home to the riders during the World Cup, but the hotel and casino will also play host to various World Cup after parties, and be “home base” for all PBR activity during the World Cup.

I agree with you iscoffy, that it is the Brazilian riders who are more likely to
be scored more conservatively than other riders, with Mr. Marchi and Mr. Oliviera more
typically receiving lower scores. The reason is often provided that they "pull the rope
so tight", or that they "soak" the bulls in the chute. I am not an expert in the field,
or course, but this is my opinion.
  • iscoffy
    April 14, 2010
Seriously? If anything, I think the Brazilians are often under-scored due to, as Ty Murray puts it, their lack of "flash." Most of the Brazilians pull a tight rope and have that clamped-down kind of riding style that the judges don't seem to reward. The exception may be Renato Nunes, who has an atypical style.

I agree with you Terry1943. It should be the luck of the draw and the judges do over rate the Brazilian rides. You can take an americain rider and he will ride the same as the brazil and get a lower score. I also think in the PBR which is in the USA should have to use a USA rope. Not a brazilian rope.

    April 12, 2010
I like the PBR. But they made a joke of it? Go back to drawing the bull like you use to?
Everyone has a equal chance. Change the judges as they are getting where they give everything
to Brazil. They are just like JB it time to retire? the iron man was a joke. it was the champship of riders who could not ride the bulls. The bulls and riders are the best or they would not be their
but it was a laugh watching it. Is the usa going to tell the Brazilian to change ropes when the get here? it be fair as they made riders change spurs. i know they was a safty their. But they had yrs. to change that. O well i still like the PBR even if it is filled with clowns.

Yeah, I really wish Justin were still riding, too! I'm just not holding my breath :)

I knew the EU thing was a joke, one that I enjoyed by the way.....but I wasn't getting the
same vibe from the poster that said Justin was on team USA. I'm glad to hear how the "story"
came to be. Guess some people would like to believe that he will ride again, but I'm with
Careyb....Justin has made it perfectly clear he is done riding bulls and I think hell would
pretty much freeze over before we see Justin McBride ride in the World Cup again.
  • careyb
    April 7, 2010
Guys, I'm pretty sure Justin was joking.. He's been very clear about not wanting to ride bulls again. And the EU thing was a joke by the poster, kind of like "The Onion" isn't real news. Fun to laugh about, though :)

    April 7, 2010
Yes Justin did respond back to us with "you never know" but on the other hand I think Justin was trying to create some controversy just like Adriano and Renato where doing.
The PBR has said nothing about the EU being part of the World Cup this year as far as I know. If they where and then pulled out because of Justin McBride “possibly” being on Team USA that’s to bad for them. If they can’t handle the competition then they don’t belong in the World Cup!!!!

With a unexpected news that The Ultimate Bullrider Justin McBride has the join America's Team, the European Nation responded immediately by pulling their EU World Cup Team out of the Competition for the Shift of Power has tilted toward the American.
The EU objective are clear: It will be a daunting task indeed to win the 2010 World Cup Championship with Superman McBride riding for American.

We can only petition to the 2011 Paris Declaration Conference to sanction to outlaw Superbullrider Justin McBride to compete next year.
It would only be fair to only human to compete.

I just noticed on the World Cup website that the the times for the airings for this event are
to be announced. Justin and JW had said something ealier on PBRNOW that the best way to watch
this event would be in person. I would highly agree, except that many of us cannot afford that
depend on VS to afford us an opportunity to see such an event as this. I will be GREATLY upset
to find out that this will air at a bizarre time of day. I guess this post should be aimed at
VS. But, does anybody else have an idea about this?

    March 21, 2010
I think the world cup teams.Should have to be on the built ford tough series.None of this
team Brazil.Bringing in three riders. That you don't even see on the tour.I feel they are three
ringers beening braught. To the world cup for just one thing.Winning the world cup for Brazil.
I also feel in order to compete in the built ford tough series. They should have to start at
the pbr pro series first. And work there way up the latter.Wranglercwby

I wonder why they removed my comment? Was it because I said JW was the south end of a north bound mule? Come on! He knows he's the Simon Cowell of Bull riding LOL
Folks don't you think some creative genius came up with the idea of having controversy on the Teams of Brazil and USA? Hupp instead of Proctor, Really JW?
    Love ya JB!!

I'll give it my best shot Codyccfs:

    Losely translated:

Were gonna win the World Cup, with or without Renato because we are the best. Just one thing
to analyze, did the Brazilian soccer coach not pick Ronaldinho Gaucho for the World Cup soccer
team because it was best for the team or what the fans wanted?

Not putting Renato on team Brazil is no worse than putting Hupp on team US when you have
Proctor, LJ, Shivers, just to name a few that Hupp can not warm up. Not saying he dont ride
good or anything bad about him but he only been around for a short period of time and look
how many guys come on tour and have that "FIRST TIME LUCK" then dont do anything else all
    year. Come on JW.

Muzman: Just to let you know, I checked and your comment was not deleted. It is on a
    different article www.pbrnow.com/release/?id=6217

The reason I checked was that I commented on your post. The article is titled "Full 2010

"Latest News" tab in order to find it, or cut & paste the link above that I gave you.

Ive noticed that my last comment regarding ardriano has been deleted by the webmaster??How odd.....why would YOU PBR censor such a comment????Do other people wake to find comments they have written the day before deleted??It was a comment stating adriano had a twitter pic of him and all the others on the brazilian wc team eating dinner...without renato....nothing explicit.

I have a feeling Adriano, is just playing a game he still has time to put Renato on the team. I don't trust anything he says. I'm sorry but I have never cared for Adriano, all for one and the one is Adriano. He's not as smart as he thinks he is. After the way the other teams were treated last year, I'm sorry to say I hope they loose. JMO

After watching RFD-TV Thursday night it was stated that Adriano did not choose Renato for team
member for the World Cup. It was stated that Adriano did not think of Renato as a team player
or some lame excuse. I enjoy all of the riders with the PBR'S and Renato is one of my favorite
Brazilian riders. I love to watch him ride, he is always there with the other Brazilians
helping them out. If anything, Adriano needs Renato on his team. Just my opinion! Their
mistake is all that I can say.

It is to my understanding that Brazilian Renato Nunes May not be in the World Cup In April! If This is A Fact whoever has made this decision is so wrong why would you NOT put the #6 Rider in the World In the World Cup it makes no sense to me & that is not right! I have been a PBR Fan for years & if this Favoritism is gonna continue in the PBR I will never be a part of it again. This needs to be strongly reconsidered because it is a HUGE mistake there is no reason that Renato Nunes should not be A Candidate he is a Great Rider & I think he is not being treated Fairly! I will continue to follow who is gonna be In the World Cup but remember it's not about FAVORTISM HERE PEOPLE It's about who has worked there way up to where there at and to me Renato Nunes has doen A hell of a job riding or hr wouldn't be where he's at today!!

gday. its good to supportive comments but the others judging others and making snide remarks has no purpose all riders are gonna give it a go, its good to be supportive but not to the point of obscessive and getting yr nickers in a knot. in australia it is hard to find out things. we get aqn hour show once a week on pay tv. i lopve the bullriding and the spirit and courage. i think that should be supported in all riders. one thing i dont like is hunting for pleasure and im disappointed that the pbr supports it. regards

I hadn't had time previously to read this article about the initial picks for the World Cup, and what do I discover in comments made about it .... a three day exchange of differing views of 'charli' and 'muzman'. That's ridiculous! Save it, guys, or take your battle of words elsewhere. I, personally, think the team captains should be intelligent enough to figure out who can and can't get the job done for their teams based on how the guys are riding at the time the choices are made. I am looking forward to their next picks!

must have hit a soft spot hey muzman yess i wasnt good enoth to make it to the pbr but it wasnt from the lack of trying.the amount of comitmet that the aussie guys have to put in just to make it to the states to ride is good enoth to make me prod off them i dont care if they buck off every bull as long as they try 100% wich i am shure they do and yess every one is has an opinion but urs is best left on the good side of a toilet roll any opinion that puts people down for trying isnt worth the breath used to say it. have a good day champ i hope u choke on ur breakfast

    Hello all
I am very glad with the first two names called for Mexico team, but I am very disapointed that
Hugo Pedrero is not in the list if he is one of the better mexican rider at this moment. I just
want to know if Hugo can not be pick because he rides on CBR?? If this is the case I think this
is very bad descition because each COUNTRY has to choose the best rider not matter where they
ride. I hope PBR take on mind my comment and we do not see obstacles to see the best of each
    country
    best regards to all

Oh and how well are our aussie REALLY doing in the scheme of things Charli??Pete Farley & Brendon Clark have both been cut from the bfts and couldnt BUY 8 seconds at the moment. Before this w/e Ben was looking at making his way home after being cut from the BFTS.Jared's not on tour at the moment either thought after his success in Canada, looks like being an alternate in the next BFTS cut.So I beg to differ that the boys are 'doing well'.If they have any chance of really competing and not just showing up at the world cup we need to send a competitive team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Troy has done some for bullriding but his team last year was a bit off.Just not my opinion...look back at previous post from the world cup from last year...everyone was in an uproar!!He does need to be looking at Ben Jones for sure, two 90 pt rides at one event...his best result everBen NEEDs to be in our team, but we'll see.

I agree. If J.W. isn't looking in Jordan's direction, he forsure needs to! I think he made two great choices with Austin and McKennon. If I were him, I would be adding Newberry, Mauney, and Hupp to my list.

I like all the world cup picks so far. On a different note way to go Cord and Jet.
Maybe the PBR should put together an amazing race for bullriding teams instead of doing the event in dallas again. If all the teams were as good as those 2 it would be great watching plus I think it could be alot more challenging

You're probably right. That, along with the fact that he really hasn't been riding that well
this year. I don't think Adriano has a big pot to pick from, unless he has some sleepers
in Brazil that we haven't heard of.
