NEW YORK, N.Y. (October 9, 2009) - The television ratings for the national CBS broadcast of the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) Built Ford Tough Series event in Portland, Ore., matched those of Major League Baseball (MLB), which aired on FOX on Saturday, October 3. The GoDaddy.com Invitational presented by Cooper Tires aired on Sunday, October 4 and was stop No. 29 of 31 on the PBR’s elite tour.

In PBR’s first national CBS broadcast of 2009, the average Household Rating (HHLD) was a 1.2 rating.  Although MLB garnered the same rating, PBR had more viewers, with an average of 1,867,000 persons 2+ viewing the broadcast, which was 7.2% more viewers than MLB.  Additionally, PBR’s Average P18-49 Viewership (Median Age) was 904 compared to MLB’s 539, which meant that PBR had 67.7% more viewers within the median age of 45.2 who viewed the event than MLB.  According to Nielsen Ratings, MLB’s median age was 53.8 for their Saturday FOX airing.

PBR will have two more CBS broadcasts—one on Sunday, October 25, from the Mohegan Sun Invitational in Uncasville, Conn., and the other on Sunday, November 1 which comes right in the middle of the 2009 Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas.

The PBR is the premier bull riding organization in the world, boasting contestants from the United States, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, and Canada. Its events air weekly on VERSUS on Saturday and Sunday nights (please check your local listings for details in your area), and on NBC and CBS throughout the year.  For more information, please visit www.pbrnow.com or contact Katharine Sherrer at 719.242.2800 ext. 3372 or Katharine@pbrnow.com.

I had rather see PBR on CBS,NBC,RFD or any other channel besides Versus...
as i've said before they are lousy! They don't put bull riding on when
they say they are, have to stay up half the night to see it...Dish network
sucks...the only reason for all of this is money!!! Guess i can't afford
to keep my membership as i'm a senior citzen and no cost of living raise..
let some of the big wigs live on what us seniors have and see if they
would go to the events like Mr. Bernard said do!! I made one trip to the
finals in 04 when Mike Lee won and guess thats it for me...where are all you
    seniors,,lets hear from you!!

The only reason CBS is giving PBR the time of day is
their rating are so low. They need the PBR to bring
    the rating up.

Oh that's great for CBS I live in NEW HAMPSHIRE and CBS had the 5th quarter which is on for
a half hour in which they discuss the Patriots game which ran into the starting time of the
championship round of the PBR so I only got to see five riders. So if the Patriots have a
game this probably will happen again so BOOOOOO to CBS

Very unhappy with the CBS broadcast. Here in the Dallas area we didn't get to see the Portland championship round at all. Talk about frustrating! And the CBS broadcasting team is bush league compared to Craig, Justin, and Leah. My advice to the PBR is just forget about CBS and stick with Versus unless CBS will broadcast the whole event and use the usual PBR commentators.

Not in Atlanta area. These a@@holes here didn't brodacast it. Instead it was some home foreclosure ad. CBS sucks!!!

I have to agree with this: "And why do we have to put up with Rice and Brothers for the most important day of the entire season?"

It's not fair to cut all our "people" (Craig, Justin McK, Leah, JW, Michael G, Justin McB)

I couldn't agree more with the comments about Kenny Rice and Donna Brothers. Maybe they are fine when they cover horse racing, but my cat knows more about bull riding than they do. What I really can't stand is Rice's need to fill the air with noise even when what he is saying is meaningless. Please let's stay with Justin McKee and Leah. Craig is okay even though he isn't exactly a bull riding expert. He knows what he doesn't know. And where was Justin on CBS? I'm starting to belive that the best outcome for us real fans is RFD-TV. And why do we have to put up with Rice and Brothers for the most important day of the entire season? Ridiculous. A couple of years ago (when Adriano came from behind to grab the title) NBC cut coverage off right in the middle of the championship round -- sorry we are out of time. Remember when Heidi replaced Joe Namath in the key moment of the game? Us bull riding fans don't get no respect.

I'm so happy it got such good ratings, but I never got to see it all I saw on CBS was football.
I think the PBR should keep it on versus but if they find another channel that wants to air it then the should show it on BOTH. I agree with alamo I CAN"T STAND Donna!!! She was such a brat to Adriano and she doesn't know ANYTHING! I want LEAH!

One thing that may not have been answered - how much of the Versus telecasts will be available a few days later online? Or is that only for Dish customers too?

I don't know what could ever be worked out but I wish there was another station other than
Versus to carry the PBR. Maybe if there were another network it would be available to more
fans without having to pay the higher fee that we do to get Versus now.
It would seem that as popular PBR is it would not be that hard to find a new home or---- have
Comcast who owns Versus to make it more affordable for fans, a little competition is good for
    us fans.
You are right, on CBS they had infomercils and did not show the whole program where I live.

I don't know about you all but CBS aired the PBR at the same time as the Ravens football game so guess what the local CBS covered. I like when it's aired on Versus as compared to any other network because they actually show it all when they say they are going to. The other networks will cut things short or interrupt the airing and put just about anything else above the PBR. The fact that some think going to the other networks will be better for publicity if bull crap. What fan or potential fan would ever watch and keep up with the sport if you only see a quarter of the actual sport!

That's great news! Keep the PBR growing. I hope one day the riders are all under contract with
a regular paycheck just like other major sports. I am also glad NBC gives the PBR coverage,
but I have to agree about the NBC commentators. They need someone who knows the sport. I kept
hoping security would usher Donna Brothers out when she wouldn't leave Adriano alone. She does
that kind of thing when she interviews other people, too. NBC needs to use Justin, JW and
Craig. And bring in Justin McBride and Michael Gaffney to comment and Shorty's predictions.

I know that there aren't any chances of the networks carring PBR every weekend, for two hours and for two days. I was just thinking out loud. But wouldn't it be nice if.......... Where do you live pbr? I live on the east coast as well and I got the full hour. Must have been your local channel maybe?

Note to PBR...Donna Brothers' partner is Kenny Rice. Quite honesty they ruin the PBR Final
Sunday. When Donna Brothers chased after Adrinio last year I was hoping someone would trip
her so she would leave him alone. AND Kenny Rice, that poor guy wears so much makeup I am
surprised he can move his mouth to talk! Neither one knows anything about Bull Riding and I
can't figure out how they got the contract to be the commentators on an important event like
the PBR Finals. I have complained about them for the last 4 or 5 years and I finally decided
NBC must hate PBR fans to force these two on us. I want Justin, JW, Craig & Leah!!

Uhh, yeah, because all the fans had to watch it instead of on Versus. Also putting it on during prime time, between football games, means that all the NFL fans watched. It's called prime time exposure and it helps get the sport press. However, even Versus who was airing PBR regularly doesn't show the devoted fans the whole event, so don't expect anything great out of it.

You say it like it is without really trying to criticize or be sarcastic.

It is important for the pbr to have multiple networks interested in covering their events because without competition the pbr is subject to the whims of the versus network. We all know how versus has put bullriding on the back burner by pre-empting the live coverage of the pbr events so that they can air hockey, bike riding or whatever. This is sooo frustrating!! As a bull riding fan I want to see the event live thank you!! The pbr must act in a way to create competition for the airing of their events so that the pbr is shown the respect it deserves.

Just wanted to throw in a comment here. I think it's great that the ratings were so good for
the PBR on CBS. But don't anyone hold their breath hoping that the PBR could go to a major
network next year when their contract with VS is up for renewal. Anyone of the big 4 networks,
ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX would not give us, the PBR fans, 2 days in a row of coverage. That's just
the way it is. Shoot, even NASCAR (another one of my favorite sports) doesn't even get to stay
on the same network for their entire season. SPEED chanel, ESPN, ABC & FOX all get to carry
NASCAR at some point during the year.

My best guess is, where ever the money is.....is where the PBR will go. They have proved that
by allowing Dish Network to buy into a sponsorship agreement with them, knowing that Direct TV
has more viewers (including 8 MILLION Bullriding fans). I personally think the Direct TV
Comcast/VS thing will all be solved sooner than later. I'm sticking with Direct TV and going to
the bar on Sat & Sun nights to watch til then.

Money talks and B. S. walks......

k, it's not the short go that they'll be showing on cbs (my error) but whatever go around it is...we won't be shown the entire hour...very frustrating.
Looks like the short go will be shown on NBC which if memory serves me...that means we'll have to put up with Donna Brothers and George what's-his-name... (I think it's George..)
  • pbr
    October 9, 2009
oops on the typos...but you get my point...
  • pbr
    October 9, 2009
What they do not tell you is those of us on the east coast only got about 22 minutes of the short go from that event...football ran over into what was supposed to be the hour long PBR event.
They either need to change the timing of the show...change the station they're using...or cut off whatever is showing before it so we get the full benefit of what we were told would be shown.
One major concern I ahave is they're slated top show the final short go of the Finals on CBS so we can all look forward to only seeing a shorten portion of it.

Is it me or does it seem like the PBR is putting out all this stuff (using different channels for broadcasts, the clothing line...etc) trying to impress their fans but all it's doing is sorely disappointing us??

people, get real. No other network including CBS ESPN NBC is going to give us 2hrs 2 days. Plus all the announcers, ecspecially Justin and Graig do a great job on versus.

This is great news! Maybe the networks will wake up and realize that Bullriding has a huge fan base and the PBR will get more network air time!

Fantastic !! Maybe PBR should try to go with CBS when their contract with Versus runs out. Hopefully this will show the major networks how strong the PBR is and how strong their fan base is.
