COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 9, 2006) - As the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) organize the debut of the Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) in Mexico, stock contractors prepare for an historic first in the bull riding industry. Twelve PBR stock contractors have been enlisted to participate in the Chihuahua Challenge on August 26th & 27th in the city of Chihuahua located in the state of Chihuahua Mexico. The event will feature bulls exclusively from the United States. The PBR is coordinating each logistical step of the process with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), the National Center for Import and Export, and transport has been authorized by Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (México) (SGARPA). The exact time and date that the bulls will make their border voyage will remain undisclosed as a security precaution.
According to PBR livestock superintendent and vice president Cody Lambert, “Hopefully in the future there will be enough of the caliber of bulls available in Mexico that we can use them at PBR events. However, for our first Built Ford Tough Series event in Mexico it’s important to transport and use the bulls that we know.”
Robbie Herrington of Herrington Cattle Company is confident that the PBR has laid all necessary groundwork to ensure that stock contractors have a hassle free journey. “I’m very excited to take our bulls to the Chihuahua Challenge, I can hardly wait. The PBR office has worked very hard with the USDA and officials in Mexico in order to ensure that all necessary health requirements are satisfied, so it has not been difficult for us at all.”
The American bucking bulls will cross into Mexico caravan style accompanied by PBR security personnel, as well as officials from both the State of Chihuahua and City of Chihuahua Police Departments. The Operating Supervisor for the City of Chihuahua Police Department made a special trip to Tulsa, Okla. for the Tulsa Express PBR Classic in order to familiarize himself with security measures taken on behalf of PBR livestock and treatment of the bulls behind the scenes during PBR events. Police escorts will accompany each truck carrying bulls to and from the city of Chihuahua. Once housed in Chihuahua the bulls will be under full time security surveillance, and in the case of transport to the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasio will be escorted by police at all times. Strict precautions have been taken in order to ensure that bulls from the United States will not mix at any time with Mexican cattle.
Herrington Cattle Company, Bad Company Rodeo, Bo Davis Bucking Bulls, Guidry Rodeo, Roy Carter Bucking Bulls, Diamond S Bucking Bulls, Gene Owen Bucking Bulls, and Doug Butcher Bucking Bulls, will be among those stock contractors featured at the Chihuahua Challenge.
The PBR is thrilled to bring an event from its premier tour to Chihuahua when the Chihuahua Challenge rocks into action at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 27 at the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre Gymnasio. Tickets for the Chihuahua Challenge are available now by calling 1-800-732-1727, option 1.
