Reese Cates earned his place in the history books as the 2008 Daisy PBR Rookie of the Year. The Arkansas cowboy – an emerging star barely 20 years old – finished the season ranked 11th in the world.

I'm up here in Calgary at the Stampede. This is quite an event and the PBR is well represented. J.B. Mauney won Pool A, Wiley Petersen is leading the second pool after two of four rounds and I haven't done to bad either. Click here and listen to my latest audio blog.

I’m not a social networker or whatever you call that!

This week I just wanted to set the record straight in regards to Facebook, Twitter and any other social networking site on the Internet: unfortunately, that's not me requesting your "friendship." Listen to my latest audio blog and I'll explain it more in detail. In the meantime, I'll be glad to hang out with you in person at an upcoming bull riding event so I've included a list of all the events I'll be at between now and the Fourth of July. Just click here to listen.

Reese Cates audio blog

Hey everybody it's Reese. I just got back from the Dominican Republic, where a couple of us went down for a few days vacation, so I thought I'd record another audio blog before I get busy with the upcoming Cowboy Christmas. Enjoy.

Check out my new audio blog!

It's been awhile since I last wrote a blog, but I've been busy working my way back on the BFTS tour. I'm going to try something new here and post an audio blog. All you have to do is click the link at the end of this paragraph and you'll be able to listen to my blog instead of reading it, but, at the same time, everyone can leave messages and comments right here and still keep in touch with me while I'm out traveling from one bull riding to another. Well, I sure hopes this works out like I planned so be sure to let me know what you think.

‘I’m well on my way’

This weekend I'm headed down the road to Victoria, Texas to a Discovery tour event and then I'll catch a flight back up to Canada for another Rocky Cup event. Lately I've just been trying to work my way back on to the Built Ford Tough Series.

It's been going almost as planned and I've been winning money. I had hoped to be back by now, but I'm well on my way. Another good weekend should put me over the top and back on the BFTS.

This week I’ve been reminded to take everything one day at a time

The thing about coming this past weekend is that I received a phone call from Clayton Williams telling me that one of my good friends Josh "Turtle" Griffin, who is a bull rider, had actually gotten killed. A little 1,200-pound bull had stepped right on his chest and it died before he made it to the hospital.

‘The year has definitely started far from what I expected’

Well, the year has definitely started far from what I expected. Obviously if you've logged onto www.pbrnow.com with the incentive of reading my blog you've realized that I got cut along with some of the great names like Clayton Williams, L.J. Jenkins, Brian Canter, Colby Yates, Pistol Robinson, Dustin Hall and Aaron Roy, just to name a few.

The infamous van is being driven right now as you read this

After a busy week of riding in New York, Denver and Pueblo, we flew on into Fresno, where Ryan McConnel picked us up at the airport in our van. Yes, that van. He drove us to the hotel and I got to thinking, Man, I really need to get this van back to Texas."

I called the airline and changed my flight home and got everything organized to where I could save my ticket and actually drive the van back to Texas from California after the weekend.

The season can change in a New York minute

It was a disappointing start to the Built Ford Tough Series. It's not like I rode that bad in Baltimore, but I didn't ride that good either.

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

I have a lot to be thankful for today because the other day I went to Florence, S.C., to the Challenger event that they have there. There were several of us who went--me, Kolt Donaldson, Michael Manes and Logan Knibbe.
