‘It was a pretty good sign that I need to be getting out of California’

Hello troops,

The earthquake you might have heard about, the one that happened here in Los Angeles on Sunday, well, Jewel and I actual felt it. We were in our apartment and the whole place started shaking back and forth. That was the first earthquake that I've ever experienced and it was wild.

Jewel and I looked at each and at the exact same time we both said, "Earthquake!"

We were lying on the bed watching TV and started feeling the bed shaking back forth, but then you look around and the whole room is shaking back and forth. That was wild and, to me, it was a pretty good sign that I need to be getting out of California so we have one more dance and I'm outta here.

Jewel and I went to the show tonight and it was fun getting to sit in the audience and watch it as a spectator.

It's amazing how many people come back to watch the show. Emmitt Smith was there, Warren Sapp was there and bunch of other people who were on the show in the past were there tonight.

It was entertaining and it's funny that when you watch them dance back to back like that you really do get a chance to see who you think danced the best.

I thought they were all really close tonight, but I think Shawn Johnson is going to be tough to beat. They'll all be hard to beat, but Shawn brings a large fan base and I think she's doing an amazing job of executing pretty difficult routines.

At this point, they're all close enough that any one of the three could win it. I think they've all worked their butt off and I think they all did a great job and, again, it's going to come down to how America votes.

It'll be interesting to see how all that shakes out.

As for me, Chelsie and I get to do the Lindy Hop the whole way through one last time. And, like I said, it'll be fun to have everybody back for one last show and then there's going to be a big wrap party afterward.

Jewel's birthday is on May 23, but we're going to have an early celebration with some of our friends who live here in Los Angeles so as soon as the show's over we're going to go to dinner and then we'll go to the wrap party.

Well, that's all for tonight. I'll talk to you guys tomorrow and then Wednesday morning it's going to be color me back to Texas.

Happy Birthday to Jewel,I agree about Shawn.I think she might pull it off. Your description of the earthqusake makes me think of the morning I thought we were having one here and i got shook out of the waterbed but it was low flying Chinook helocopters that rattled the whole house like an earthquake. It was scary and lasted a lot longer as they had quite a few overflights.Destroyed a lot of old crystal and cut glass in my china cabinet. Our little earthquakes here in TN are nothing like Ca.'s and nothing compared to really low flying Chinooks.Again we are real proud of you.

I agree with you Ty. Shawn was the best tonight. The other two just didn't do it for me even though I like Gille.

You sound like a kid at Christmas waiting to get back home. I don't blame you. I can't imagine being away from my farm and the country that long. I don't mind short visits to big cities but if I'm there too long I start getting stressed out. Was visiting DFW in Feb. and after a week couldn't wait to get out of there.

I have been in one earthquake but it was on the Great Lakes. I was a sleep in bed and it woke me up because my whole bed was shaking.

Thanks again for keeping all of us in the loop. Either You or Jewel will have to take more pictures and post them when you get back home. Would love to see some.

Happy Birthday Jewel

Have fun with Tuesday nights show.

Hey Ty! Gosh, that was your first earthquake? Crazy experience, huh? Well, I'm from San Francisco, so I'm not too surprised by those, haha. Tonight's show wasn't as exciting for me without you in it, but I still get to see you dance one more time tomorrow =D! And Happy early Birthday to Jewel! Have a safe trip back to Texas!
# Posted By Lily | 5/19/09 2:17 AM
Your first earthquake! They're pretty trippy. I always get a jolt of adrenalin at first, and then kind of tense up until it is over. This one wasn't too bad and no aftershocks, so even better.

The show was a little boring tonight without any Tyisms! The Paso was pretty good, although I would have preferred more traditional Paso music. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the Freestyle dances. I thought there were too many lifts and tricks and not enough dancing. Shawn did have the best Freestyle of the night, but now that I'm not voting for you and Chelsie, I gave my votes to Gilles for the dances he performed all season. It will be close this year, any one of them could win. Tuesday night should be fun! Looking forward to the Lindy Hop!

Yes, I would be ready to get home too after being out of town for so long!!!

I did notice all the former contestants from multiple seasons in the audience. Homecoming night at DWTS!!!

Texas will be real glad to see you! You have worked so hard and I hope you and Jewel will be able to have a little time to relax before the pace picks up again. We have enjoyed this experience and I do want to Thank You for sharing all of this with the fans, it's been exceptional and like no other I've seen. Jewel's site the same, so nice of her to post all the pics!

Happy Birthday to you Jewel!!! My daughter, who is a huge fan of yours, will be 29 on the 23rd of May and it seems like only yesterday she was a baby! Your family must be so proud of their little girl! BTW, love your new CD!!! It's beautiful!

I look forward to watching you dance again tonight. I know the ranch will be happy you're back but the army's goona miss you. Happy Birthday to Jewel!

Well Ty, the show was good last night but for me it just didn't have that POP since you and Chelsie didn't dance. I want to thank you again for all the pleasure you brought on DWTS. Your personality and smile just lit up the room every week. Excited to see your lindy hop and hope you have fun with it. No pressure tonight!! I know you are ready to get back home and enjoy your life again. Here's hoping you and Jewel have a wonderful future together and pray God blesses your home with lots of little cowboys and singers!!!!
Salute.....Forever a Texas fan

Thank you so much for letting us share in this adventure with you - even if we had the easy part.

What a champ you are! I wanted to see a real person win this competition, but there are only the three egomaniacs left....

Best of everything to you and Jewel as your life returns to normal.

An early Happy Birthday Jewel. Ty, I so enjoyed watching you this season and am glad you had such a good time. I will really enjoy watching the Lindy Hop again but will be sad that this will be your last dance. Oh well! A California loss is a Texas gain and I'm looking forward to seeing you on the PBR again. I hope you and Jewel keep up your blogs. Its one of the first things I check on each morning. Love ya guys!

As Dorothy Gale said in The Wizard of Oz, "There's no place like home! There's no place like home".
Especially when home is in my home state of Texas.

You and Chelsie did so great & Jewel was the best cheerleader and Twitterer. I loved the behind-the-scenes photos she shared with us.

Now, I'd love to see you do the celeb bull riding thing again. Do you hear from any of those guys?
# Posted By Margaret G | 5/19/09 8:12 AM
Looking forward to seeing you dance one last time tonight! (I must admit, though, I am a bit sad for this season to be ending...)

Thanks for keeping us fans in the loop for the last few months!

P.S. I loved, loved, loved Shawn and Mark's freestyle. I just had to put that out there somewhere!

Good Morning, Ty and Jewel.

Sounds like you are having some fun the last couple of days in California, but I know you can't wait for that plane to take off Wednesday for the Lone Star State. Hopefully, the bluebells will be in full bloom to welcome you home.
The army will be watching our General one last time tonight dancing the Lindy Hop before he retires his dancing shoes. It was one of your best dances of the season, Sir.
To both you and Jewel, thanks for everything you have done to include us in the DWTS adventure.
Have a safe trip home, be blessed with good fortune and stay in touch with your troops once in a while when you can. Sending along an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Jewel.

Jill

Having grown up in Southern CA, I have to giggle a little. Native Angelinos can pretty much tell you the richter rating of an earthquake by the seat of thier pants, out of towners usually freak out; even if they've been living there for many years. Consider yourself initiated. Thanks for run on DWTS, you made Mondays exciting. Now let's back to business, we've got the most competitive PBR title race in years going on!
# Posted By blipson | 5/19/09 8:54 AM
Ty: You are a true "Cowboy and a Gentleman", it has been a great ride the past three months. I can't wait to see your one last dance tonight. I'd be on the first plane out heading to Texas also. Take care,
# Posted By JanetK | 5/19/09 9:00 AM
Ty,
I have been through one of those earthquakes when I was in Japan. Not fun. Like you said a sign to get back home. Now that you finally are getting home, what is the one thing you have missed the most from home? Thank you again for participating with DWTS. What you have set out to do, you have done. I didn't know much about the PBR and now I have become a fan. I don't understand why the ESPY awards does not recognize PBR. Perhaps now with the added fan base ESPN will take note. Enjoy this evening, and I know you will have a big smile on your face when you get home!

Heh. You non-natives and your bug-eyed earthquake reactions. That was just a baby. In your terms, that quake was a Level 3 bull at best. I didn’t get off the couch for that one.

Show wasn’t the same without you and Chelsie. It’s weird going from such investment and excitement in cheering for you guys to barely watching the big Fianls show with any interest. It’ll be good to see you guys dance again tomorrow.

I have the winner of this season being a much, much tighter race than ever. Melissa has danced her last dance – she is a clear 3rd place. But the race between Shawn and Gilles is razor thin in favor of Shawn. The thing is, they both get one more dance to score some points. In seasons past, the judges just gave these final dances complimentary 30’s, but I suspect they might not this season.

I have never been able to determine if they throw out the 3rd place finisher’s scores and just use the top two contestants’ scores to form the judges’ pool to determine the winner. If this is the case, then Gilles needs just around three more points than Shawn to beat her. If he scores just two more points in that final dance, it is just way too close to call. If he scores just one point or less (or loses that final dance), Shawn will take it and win DWTS.

If Melissa’s scores are kept in play (I don’t think so), then Shawn has a more comfortable lead because outscoring Shawn in that final dance won’t mean as much. By the way, Ty, your exit helped Gilles tremendously. He captured around 60% of your votes after you got eliminated in the semi-finals by my estimates.

My Prediction: In the Final Dance-off between Gilles and Shawn, Gilles will score a 30 and Shawn will score a 28. It then becomes a matter of fractions of a percentage point in the audience votes to determine a winner. If Shawn scores a 29 or better in her final dance, she probably wins. Gilles needs to find at least two points to make it a race, and three points probably makes him the winner.

Have fun tomorrow Ty. Please stay a part of the DWTS family for years to come.

Hi Ty,

It will be great to see you & Chelsie dance one last time. My family all had the same comment last night as we were watching the show. . . It's just not the same without Ty & Chelsie. Even though dancing is not your gig, you were definitely missed. We have enjoyed watching you and Chelsie and Jewel so much over the last several weeks.

Have fun tonight! Please wish Jewel an early Happy Birthday for us and have a safe trip back to Texas.

i agree with you~~~shawn jonhson did a fantastic job last night. i hope she wins, although i couldn't bring myself to vote for her or any of the last three. i just couldn't disrespect our general ty !
please tell jewel happy birthday. sounds like a fun celabration that you two will have tonight.
see you back in the booth on versus when the summer break is over and until then~~~keep on keeping on

I guess I'm happy if you're happy that you didn't have to learn more new routines, but I want to say that you could have been right there with them. So it took me 22 minutes to get in my 4 votes on the phone for my other favorite.
Therefore, regardless of who won, it is fer shur that with a phone system that is inadequate to process the volume of participation in a respectable manner, we can always guess that whatever happens may not be what the participating public had desired, and all of you should get a disco ball on a stick.
Now you have had a full Hollywood Experience. Lights, cameras, and ground shaking action. It's good to hear you are safe.
Happy Birthday to the Distaff Side. It's wonderful that you are giving her more than one Birthday Dinner. Will you be cooking for her at home? There's something about a man and his best girilll. That's grill spelled phonetically to encompass grill and girl but you got that.
May the road rise to meet you.
Keep dancin.

Ty, Thanks for sharing this experience in your blog. As I'm more of a PBR fan, I'm not sure I'll be a "Dancing" regular viewer next season, but I certainly enjoyed this one! Thanks so much! Best of luck to you and Jewel and Chelsie in the future! trish

Glad we got to see you and do your best at dancing.
You and Chelsie were just "Great".
Happy Birthday Jewel.
Will be watching tonight when you do the Lindy Hop.
Did see Warren and Emmitt last night. There were quite a few celebs there. Very popular show.
Will you be blogging when you get back to the ranch??

Happy Early Birthday Jewel. We all missed seeing you last night. I did tune in, but just to see ya'll in the audience. But I didn't. Glad earthquake didn't do any damage to your apartment. Scarey. I agree about Shawn. I hope she wins. Besides you, I think she is the next one that the show is really about. Being out of your element. I know you will be glad to get home....you made Texas proud. It's always nice to get home and sleep in your own bed. Can't wait for tonight....it will be great. Thanks for taking all of us along on this wonderful ride. It will be a lifetime memory for me. All my friends are just shaking their heads in disbelief at me. This is so out of character for me to watch the show and blog. But you and Jewel just drew me in with your charm and honesty. What you see is what you get. Well.....Texas is mighty lucky if you ask me. Stay in touch and......
We Miss Ya'll Already,

Hi Ty, I want to say "Thank You" for taking the time to write such great blogs for your troops. I am sure at times it had to be kind of a pain in the back side, but your blogs were great. You have an excellent skill of making me feel like I was part of the experience just by your words. Not only with DWTS, but also with bullriding. I became a huge fan of the PBR because of what you had to say about the bulls, the cowboys, and the sport.
Because of this skill, I was wondering if you and the PBR thought about doing a blog once a week about the previous weekends PBR event. It would be great to hear your thoughts and opinions about the bulls, the stock contractors, the cowboys and the event.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
Happy Birthday Jewel!

Hope to see you at San Antonio PBR event.

Ty, gosh I can't believe just one more dance from you and then it's over. It really makes me a little sad, but I have enjoyed you so much, I can't help but be a little selfish. You have given us all much more than you may ever know.
I know that you are anxious to get back to the ranch and I certainly can't blame you. I do hope, however that you'll keep your myspace up and running and every now & then post some pic's from home. Don't forget...you have an entire Army behind you, so if you need us, just hollar!! Oh, and Ty, can you teach your daughter how to blog, so we can keep up with her too?
Please extend a very Happy Birthday to Jewel and know that you all will be in my prayers for the blessings you so deserve. Thanks for great, great season! Best wishes, always.

Just a final Thank You for giving so much of yourself on DWTS. It's been a blast to watch and you've been a great person to cheer and vote for. Thanks to Chelsie for doing an amazing job with choreography and teaching you to dance (funny to see how far you've come, isn't it?). And to Jewel for the posts, and just for being so COOL. Blessings.

Ty Chelsie, and Jewel,
DWTS will never be the same without you and Chelsie.
Thanks for the happy faces every night you danced.
Your Mom and Dad will be happy to have you home
for that lunch or horse backriding, and branding My sister has been blue, I think she just misses you. Have a safe trip home and thanks for the great ride.

Ty, Well your journey is finally over. What a ride!!!
Thank you for all the funny sayings, the dancing and just for being you.
I am blogging from Amsterdam while on vacation and this is the 3rd time there has been an earthquake back home while I was away. This time it was centered in my neighborhood, but, my son said all was well. I grew up in California and have experienced a lot of quakes but I never got used to them.
You two have a safe trip home and Jewel, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

PS I heard about the HBO special--will have it recorded for my return. It is good for the PBR to finally get some recognition.

Thank you again for making your fans part of your journey on DWTS. Your Faithful Soldier, Po

Ty,

As other posters have said, last night just wasn't the same. Really missed seeing you dance and looking forward to tonight's show. Thanks again for blogging and I was glad to be a part of the cowboy army. Will miss seeing your daily blogs.

Have a safe trip home and an early "Happy Birthday to Jewel!"

p.s. Thanks to Jewel for her posts and pictures - they were great!!!

Ty,
Wish Jewell a very, very happy birthday.
We watched DWTS last night, but...I have to agree with the others...it just wasn't the same without you and Chelsie. We rooted, voted, called friends to vote and basically supported you all the way. Wish you could have gone to the end, but understand that not having to learn the new routines was probably a bbbbiiiigggg relief! Look forward to seeing you and Chelsie again tonight! Best of luck to you and Jewell back on the ranch!!
# Posted By Elaine | 5/19/09 6:36 PM
Your blog made me smile...earthquake? Yep, a sure sign you better head back to TEXAS! I spent yesterday cutting hay and I thought about you and Jewel being in LA and not getting to smell fresh cut hay....I know that you will be glad to get back to the ranch!

I thought Shawn did great last night and she got my votes since you were not there to get them. She has come a long ways and just seems like such a good kid.

I am really looking forward to you and Chelsie dancing the Lindy Hop and I am glad that you are doing the entire thing and not just a portion!

Happy Birthday to Jewel and I hope y'all both have a great time tonight.

Safe trip back to Texas......
# Posted By Leah | 5/19/09 6:49 PM
Withdrawal has been he!! LOL. Last night didn't help, I was hoping you and Jewell were in the audience but if they showed you guys I missed it. Oh well, at least there's one more dance tonight. Have fun and thanks again for the most amazing ride.

Ty, Jewel and Chelsie,
Happy birthday to Jewel! You should enjoy this one now that you have Ty to yourself. Ty and Chelsie, thank you for such an enjoyable run on DWTS. I don't think I would have enjoyed watching if not for the Tyisms and good dancing from both of you. I have to agree with others, I don't know that I'll be a big fan of DWTS now that I have seen you two. They may have other good couples, but you two were the most enjoyable for me. Regardless of who wins, in my book you are the winner because of your attitude and hard work. No one can ever say that cowboys can't dance ballroom because you proved them wrong! I'll be ready for that Lindy Hop tonight. Go get 'em, Ty!!
# Posted By Paula | 5/19/09 7:07 PM
I'm looking forward to one last dance by all the competitors from this season. Shawn was awesome last night and I really like Gilles. Should be an interesting finale.

Have a safe trip back to Texas! Being from Ohio, I've never experienced an earthquake, and hope I never do! That had to be scary. Can't wait to see your last dance tonight. I don't know if they'll ever be a contestant as fun to watch as you were! Have a Happy Birthday, Jewel!
# Posted By Gail | 5/19/09 8:08 PM
FYI Ty & Jewel, There was a 3.something earthquake in the Irving/Arlington area a day or two before the L.A. one. We didn't feel it in Stephenville, however. Congrats on a great job, Ty, and thanks for putting S'ville on the map.
# Posted By diannepw | 5/19/09 9:30 PM
Ty,
I definitely caught that salute in the dance tonight!! Thanks for all your hard work and your entertainment you brought to the show. We loved seeing you out there representing the cowboy nation so well! Look forward to learning more about the pbr. Thanks for including all of your fans in the process!

Hey Ty, Jewel and Chelsie.

Happy Birthday to Jewel!!!

Just think of the earthquake as a sad goodbye to you all. Funny, I'm just north of San Fran and I've only ever felt one earthquake in my entire life....of course I was younger and I thought it was a big truck driving by. I didn't realize what it was until I saw the chandelier swinging so hard that it hit the ceiling. I think a Tornado or a Hurricane would be a much scarier experience because earthquakes don't generally take out entire towns.

Thanks for not giving away the outcome of tonights show on the blogs as it just started here. Have a safe trip home. See you all in Reno.
# Posted By Jennifer | 5/20/09 12:20 AM
I LOVED the encore Lindy Hop performance! You and Chelsie are my favorite couple! Tell her it wasn't just the cowboy nation behind you guys, all her loyal fans from So You Think You Can Dance were behind you. I only watched Dancing With the Stars when I heard she was going to be in it this season. She's a brilliant dancer and choreographer and you are the sweetest (and funniest) man on Earth. The perfect DWTS couple!

Every Monday night, I kidnapped all the cell phones from my family so I could max out the votes for you two. By the way, you guys got jipped on your Salsa scores--it was brilliantly danced!!!

Happy birthday to the incredibly lovely and talented Jewel, whom I love, love LOVE. Can't wait to have her do another Lilith Fair.

XOXO
Jen C.

P.S. Thanks to you, I have a whole new respect for the sport of rodeo and promise to go to a rodeo show in the near future.

happy birthday jewel. we live in socal, and know what you mean about the earthquakes.i think of them as little foot massages.good job on the show, but we are looking forward to seeing you in the booth again.July 17 seems insufferably far away.enjoy being home! k&c
# Posted By curt | 5/28/09 8:26 PM
Ty, I just checked this site out because I watched and loved you on DWTS. I actually started watching bull riding because of you, so your hope of bringing publicity to the sport you love worked on at least one person. I'm kind of disappointed, though. I wish they'd show stuff like the DWTS rehearsal footage. If the other cowboys are half as funny as you were on the show, we're missing out on a lot of entertainment!

I've always lived in Southern California so I tend to think of earthquakes as free carnival rides. Check to see if there's anything to fall on you and, if not, just enjoy! You could just pretend it's a bull that can't actually buck you off or stomp on you and have a great time!

Thanks again for a lot of fun footage on DWTS. Thank Jewel for me, too. It was great to see such a cute couple (pardon my inability to think of a more cowboy-appropriate adjective) and how much she loved seeing the country get to know her cowboy. Hope she gets her chance to dance soon.
