This week I’ve been reminded to take everything one day at a time

The thing about coming this past weekend is that I received a phone call from Clayton Williams telling me that one of my good friends Josh "Turtle" Griffin, who is a bull rider, had actually gotten killed. A little 1,200-pound bull had stepped right on his chest and it died before he made it to the hospital.

I've had some friends die in the past from other incidents, but I've never had a close friend die because of bull riding. That's something that we, being professional bull riders, sometimes overlook until it really hits that close to home.

You just kind of block that out and know my friend wouldn't want me thinking about it. I know he'd want me to go on and not think twice about, and that's what I'll do. I am a bull rider so those worries don't bother me, but it reminded me to take everything one day at a time and to enjoy this life that we live, to enjoy the rights and the freedoms we have to ride bulls and have fun.

Like I said, it's a lifestyle and at any moment it can be taken away from you, especially if you don't respect the sport and respect the animals.

PS: I'm still looking to be back, here shortly, as one of the Top 40 bull riders.

PSS: The YouTube video I saw very encouraging and I want to say thanks to all the fans out there, all the family and all the friends who have been so supportive of me not only since I've been cut, but since the beginning of my career. I just want to say thanks to everyone. Hopefully in the near future I'll win a world title and I'll be the guy with the most support and the most fans.

Wise words from a young man. Once again you have reached out to the fans, sharing your thoughts with regards to a difficult personal challenge. I am sorry for the loss of your friend, and I am sorry that the fates seems to throw these life challenges at us in groupings. You hang in there Reese. As you well know by now; we are all proud of you and we are all pulling for you.
One bull at a time, one day at a time. Kathy

I am sorry to hear about your friend. My son's best friend was killed in an auto accident when they were freshmen in college and I know how hard it was for him to go on.
My prayers are with you and your friend's family. You be careful out there on the road and in the arena. I know we will see you back in the top 40 soon.

Hey Reese, I heard about the bull rider that died this past week & I am so sorry to hear that on top of losing a fellow rider, you lost a friend. But like you said, keep your head up & keep riding. I don't know anything about the rider who died but I think (just knowing that he was a bull rider) he'd probably have done the same thing.

We're with you Reese & don't you worry about losing fan support. We're with you all the way!!! And I saw that youtube video. It was pretty funny. Looks like you're gonna have a little following before it's all over! ; )

Oh Reese, I'm so sorry about your friend. I heard about it, but I didn't know he was a friend of yours. I am so sorry and I know there is nothing I can say to help. Probably the best thing is not talking about it. Things like that are always so tough. You are right though, he wouldn't want you brooding over it or thinking about it. He would want you to move on but always remember him. What you do is dangerous, so you have to make each day be the best you can. That is the way we all should look at things. Just remember, God puts people on this earth for a reason, and he takes them off for a reason too. They are reasons you can't know or understand, but he has a plan for all of us. My prayers are with you now and they will always be. God bless you Reese, and what you do for the fans is priceless. We are the ones that should be thanking you. Not very many people reach out to the fans like you do. Not many stay humble when they have success either. Thanks.

Reese,

I am so sorry about your friend. Things like this do remind us how fragile life is and how blessed we are for each day that God gives us. I am looking forward to you coming back, and keep checking to see where you are. You are a very special young man. Keep your positive attitude and keep riding your blog. See you soon on the BFTS.

Reese, I am so sorry too hear about your friend. My prayers are with you. Just remember.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference."
All you can do is live one day at a time and take one moment at a time. You are a very special young man. I think you have a lot of fans already you don't need a world title for that.

Reese,
Saw the news about Josh Griffin through Breeder's Connection...kinda figured some of you all probably knew him. Sounds as though he was a great young bull rider who would get on anything. A true cowboy who loved the Lord. Our prayers go out for his family and for you all, his friends. Josh surely would want you to dwell in God's peace.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I happened to read about it on the pbrnow website. Although it is difficult for you now, I imagine he left this world doing what he loved to do, bullridin. Keep his spirit with you and draw strength from that. Keep ridin and keep fightin. Hope to see ya in Tacoma!!

Reese in just a short time you have become one of my favorite cowboys. Your time spent on this blog shows you do care about the PBR, the fans and that it is a great privelage to be a part of it. I'm sure we'll see you back inside the top 40, heck your a top 10 caliber bull rider, you just need the right bulls ran under you and just take care of business one bull at a time, the rest will take care of it self.I'm really sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, but your right, your a bull rider and you need to look at the next one and not the past, and I'm sure you'll press on just fine. God has truely blessed you, just remember it's all possible through Him..Take care kid and God Bless you and the rest of that great bull riding wolf pack you travel with...Larry

Reese, you hang in there. I know this has been tough on you loosing your friend and being cut. Just know we in Parkers Chapel are cheering you on! Let us hear from ya!

It is terrible when anyone dies before their time. But like NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt, he died doing what he loved. I know that would be how I would want to go.

I look forward to seeing you back on tour here very soon. It just hasn't been the same without you. Good luck!

Reese, My husband and I want you to know we are praying for Josh's family, for you, and for the rest of Josh's friends. Praise God, it sounds like he knew the Lord. Reese, Dick and I think you're a fine young man and we enjoy watching you ride. We enjoy your interviews, too. You are a great witness for Christ! God bless you! I'm hoping they'll put you back on the BFTS tour before St. Louis! My husband, youngest daughter, and I are attending all 3 days with my brother, sister-in-law, nephew, and my sister. I've been counting the months, weeks, and now days! My daughter will be especially disappointed if you're not there! ;-D My husband and I met you after Cowboy Church last year in St. Louis, and you acted surprised that somebody recognized you so early after you had started on tour.
God bless you, Reese! Keep Jesus first!
Sincerely, Dick and Jill Butler
