I Made The Cut Again!

Well, once again, the PBR didn't cut me from the tour. Maybe some of you wish they would move me down to the Challenger Tour and give someone else a chance, but you're stuck with me for awhile longer. "The cut" is always a hot topic when the time rolls around, and even though I started this blog on that subject, I pretty much just show up the next week and see who is and isn't there.

I know, I know, you're thinking that this is my livelihood and I should have more concern.

Sorry! Fact is I've never really even understood the point system. Before you start typing your comment to tell the PBR, "See, Flint doesn't even know what's going on," let me explain my position.

Most of these riders are my friends at some level. We get to know many of them pretty well and even get acquainted with their families. It just seems easier for me to keep a little distance from the pressures of these young guys staying on the tour.

Like you, I miss some of the guys when they are off the tour for awhile. But if they're the top-tier riders, like we know some of them are, they will be back.

We all have our favorites. I think Beau Hill should just be on tour all the time because he is a Montana guy, he's hilarious, he's a great friend, and his wife just had their third child. But he just didn't quite ride well enough.

The passion of the fans really does come out every five events when the cut happens and that's what we love. Even if it ticks you off that your favorite guy got cut, can you look at the list and say, "That guy sucks, he should go home?"

Okay, some of you might actually answer yes, but true fans know the cream rises. The best thing to do is encourage your favorites and get them back up where they should be.

The great thing about this whole deal is the fact that when I started with the PBR there were about 5 or 6 riders that the crowd knew as stars of the sport. Those were the guys that would get a reaction from the live audience. Now our great fans are fighting for their favorite, who happens to be number 41 in the standings! I love it.

I do know this about the points system and the BFTS tour. We are touring around the country to put on a great show and to crown a world champion at the end of the season. The guys who ride the best are on the tour and the individual who rides the very best is the champ. That's it.

This ain't youth soccer, folks...not everybody is going to get a trophy.

I hate to touch on this topic, because it gets people all hot and bothered, but here goes. I have consciously paid attention to whether our shows have been affected by going to 40 riders instead of 45. I have not heard ONE negative comment by any fans at an actual live event.

We have had some of the best live shows in the history of our sport in this last month.

The economy stinks and our ticket sales are up. There were 15,000 fans on Saturday in OKC! Are you kidding? Sold out in Anaheim? Cool! Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers told me that he's hooked and that he's coming to as many as he can. Luke Perry was just squirrelly with excitement.

So now we need our diehards to get back on the positive bandwagon and come have some fun with us.

I went to a George Strait concert a couple years ago. When it was over, I realized he didn't sing "The Chair", "This is Where the Cowboy Rides Away" or "You Look So Good in Love," three of my favorites. Oh, well, I guess he had some new ones he wanted the crowd to hear.

It was still a great show.

We'll Pick You Up...in St. Louis!

It's off this week to one of our favorite events, the Enterprise Invitational. We talk all year about the crowds at St. Louis. Not just in the arena, but also in the lobby of the hotel. It is some great people watchin'.

I always said that if you've ever had your beer cooler signed by a clown in the lobby of a hotel at a PBR event, you might be a redneck. I'll guarantee it will happen this weekend.

Our friends at Enterprise are always great hosts and you fans should know that they are huge supporters of the PBR. I am not just talking financially. The people in that company are fans of the sport and do everything they can to support all the riders.

Thanks to all the fans at the events in the last month that have made me look forward to going to work every weekend. I even sang "All Season Long" in Oklahoma for the first time at a BFTS since the World Finals. I had a blast.

To the person who sent me the link to the girls on YouTube, singing their song about Harve and Reese: hilarious! I always love a good laugh over coffee in the morning.

Whaddaya say we set an attendance record in St. Louis this weekend, too?

Laugh Always, Flint.

Flint I am so happy that you wrote about the cut this week. I totally agree with the fact that the cream will rise. I also think it is important to remember that we would not have met some of the greats if it were not for the cut system. I also do agree that it is great to see that the PBR is still going strong in this economy.

Oh, I'm one of those fans whose not crazy about having missed one of her favorites because of the cut, but man, you guys put on such a great show, that I barely thought of it this last weekend in Anaheim. It was so much fun!

I may have been only one of two fans staked out in the lobby, but it was a great time. The riders we got to meet were really nice, and Flint, my brother thanks you for saying I didn't need to smack him--he knows now that you are indeed *the* clown ;) He had a good time, too.

Thanks to all of you for a fun show! I can't wait to see it again in Ontario.

Hey Flint, just stopping by to say hello and tell you that my husband and I will be at the Ty Murry Invitational in New Mexico and I would love to hear you sing that song you sang at the finals last year. Have a great time at St. Louis we will be watching on Versus.

My favorite Colby Yates sholud be in the tour. He's not only a great rider but a great friend to all and a event promoter in his ranch. It was a shame he ws cut.I met him in Glendale last year and was a great moment. Also q great attitude whether he rode or not.No temper tantrums or other apeism like some do by kicking walls and throwing helmets and other unseemly acts.I hope to see him back in the tour maybe as an alternate.

Flint,
It's always a joy to read your blogs. I just wanted to say how good it was to hear you sing "All Season Long" at OK City. I was glad that my daughter was with us and was able to hear it. We are Clayton's friends that told you before the show that this was ...... well, how should I say, "HER FIRST" time at a PBR event. (We worded it a little different then, but I won't say that here! I think we actually made you blush!)
Anyway, she loved it and after the weekend she is totally hooked on the PBR. With being in entertainment herself, she enjoyed watching you and thinks you are very talented. You can add another one to your long list of fans.
You are quite the entertainer and as I say, "you are the show within the show". Thanks for making us laugh. You're the cherry on top the sundae!
Looking forward to St. Louis!

Well I am here in St Lewis For the big bucking show and help boost the attendance record. I'm getting excited. I always do. I flew in a day early by accident. I was confused and thought it started on Thursday. Buy the time I figured it out I tried to change my airline tickets it was $680. per person to correct. The tickets were only $375. to begin with. I told then I would go a day early then. I was glad we did since it was 70 degrees when we landed here. We had a wind chill of -20 in ND when I left this morning.

This is going to be a great trip with 3 days of bucking in St. Lewis then 2 days in Kansas City.
I know I complain a lot about the 40 riders and still would like the 45 back. I think I have come to terms with that. I just can't keep away. I must be a groupie even tho my husband and I are in our 50''s. When you are as addicted as I am you tend to become opinionated. I guess I will enjoy the event and stop complaining.

As many times that I've seen The BFTS I am always amazed at the opening ceremonies. I am never late and never miss that part of the show. Flint is one of the best entertainers around any arena circuit. I know a lot of his acts and he always surprises me with a new one. His show never gets old.

I know Flint said that that was the first time he did his song for the BFTS since Vegas but I did see him sing it and put on a great show in Pueblo in a discovery event. He had a trench coat on and 4 chorus line girls. Great Show. Everyone went crazy with excitement. Flint keep on entertaining you are the best

Best of luck to all the riders including the new ones on tour.

Hi Flint! I just wanted to share with you that even though I am a HUGH PBR fan, I'm a HUGH Flint fan too!! My husband and I have finally started to spring for the $100.00 seats when we can get to an event and you were good enough to pose for some great pictures for my friend and I in OK City (probably cuz I kept screaming for you!) The event alone is a blast, but you are the icing on the cake!! I too am so please that even in this tough economy the PBR is going strong. I believe a lot of that is due to the fact that ya'll "get to know" your fans. You make us feel like part of the family and there is NO OTHER sport that does that!!! The fact that the guys stick around to say Hi after the event is very nice, but I do have to admit I'm stressed that I've never been able to get my Flint autograph!!!!! Anyway, thanks for all that you do and God Bless!
Your biggest fan in Arkansas!

i agree beau should always be on the tour. Being from Montana, and also my family and Beau's family is related. My cousin is his cousin. When he comes on my dad always says "there is beau." and my mom who usually is doing something in the other room runs in. I wish we would have more montana events. But i can't wait for billings. I have met you probably 10 times because we would always go to rodeos around montana and you have always made me laugh. My birthday is always around the billings event so that makes it more special. and I always quote you when you said to me when i asked you to sign my boot 2 years ago and you said "I am signing a boot and they are playing boot scoot boogy, coincidence? I think not." haha. my sister wanted to be a rodeo clown because of you. thanks for being funny.

Oh My Gosh!!! We just got back from PBR in St. Louis and it was my first time going to this event. You are hilarious and I love your moves!! What a great time we had, you guys put on such a great show. I was glad none of the guys got hurt and it was so fun! Please tell the cowboy we so appreciate his giving our granddaughter a ride on the horse, she has leukemia and we got the tickets through Dream Factory for her.

It was GREAT to see you get some serious TV time on Saturday in St. Louis!! Way better than the parody-inspiring pan-by shot! Let me guess...there was a woman behind the camera who enjoyed hot clown dancing?!?! WaHooo..me too!
# Posted By LBBullcrazy | 3/1/09 1:43 AM
I went to my first rodeo in STL. You were hilarious!!! My friends and I all loved the show and you definitely have talent at what you do.
# Posted By New | 3/1/09 1:31 PM
Flint, thanks for your comments on the cut, sometimes it is hard to see one of your favorites cut from the tour but you are right, if they are meant to be there they will work their way back. If they ever cut you they will probably not care for the comments that thousands of TV will be sending in. Thanks and keep up the good work in the arena. Rick

Well, since you brought up Beau Hill and the cuts, I have to say from a fan perspective this totally makes no sense. Even you thought Beau Hill was going to be cut last week and he wasn't- luckily. And he went out and did a decent job getting 8th in St. Louis. Then, during the telecast they say he won't be riding next week because he had to make 300 pts but he made 375. I guess the only explanation I might understand, from PBR perspective, is that I'll be logging in to the website regularly to check and see if they have the next draw posted and see if Beau's name is on it. It does seem a little political though, like whomever has the right sponsors or knows the right people or what not- are going to be the riders competing.
Regardless- thanks for the reminder to laugh. You are an amazing entertainer and I look forward to seeing you in Vegas!

Flint-I have 3 daughters who think you "rock"! They love the PBR (thanks to their dad), and your blogs are great to read. I met you in Kansas City last weekend at the PBR Skybar after the PBR at Sprint Center. You were getting ready to leave and my husband saw you in the bathroom :) and he said you had to meet his wife and you came out just to meet me and I can't tell you what that meant to him and me (and the girls thought it was pretty cool too). You are a very funny man, but your graciousness in doing this favor for my husband is what I will remember most.

We received an email on your heart attack and we wish you a speedy recovery! You are in our prayers.

God Bless You (and your family),

By the way- loved your dance that night after Ty danced on the cage!
Take care.

Thank you for all you do for the people of rodeo & the PBR. My Grandchildren think you are the greatest. I also feel the cut is good for the PBR since only so many riders can be in it. With the cut the young guns get a chance to show what they can do, with out it they couldn't.
# Posted By annamack | 3/18/09 4:28 PM
FLINT! Im so sorry to hear about your heart attack. I hope you feel better really soon! Can't wait till your back at the PBR, but your health should definately be first! At the last Tulsa event, we went to the Meet and Greet and you were just as nice in person as you seem in the arena. Of all the people associated with the PBR, you would be the last one
I would think would have a heart attack, considering that you jump around and run from the arena all the way to the top of the stands and back, dance and sing, the whole night....it just dosen't seem possible with all the exercise you get!! Anyways, get well soon! Miss all your laughs!

o! and p.s. I would quit goin to the PBR if they cut YOU from the events...dont get me wrong, I love bull riding, but you bring the excitement.... :D

Flint! Out of everyone in PBR- You are my favorite! Me and my two friends live in Columbia, MO, right in between St. Louis and KC, so we were in St. Louis for Friday and Saturday, and then in KC for the next Sunday. Actually...we were your runner up fans of the night in KC! That was pretty much the most exciting moment for all of us....ever. We talk about it all the time. From all of us- We hope you never ever get cut! :) Hope to see you all in Vegas.
