What a Great First Month!

Well, with the first five events of the 2009 Built Ford Tough Series under our belts, I know I couldn't be happier with how the tour has gone so far. Honestly, heading into our first event in Baltimore, many of us held our breath as we walked out into the arena a few minutes before the show.

The media had just spent the entire holiday season telling us that nobody in America had a dime to spend and that "extras" like sporting events, concerts and other entertainment options would be the first to suffer.

So far, so good.

Our ticket sales at all our stops so far are either up or holding steady compared to previous years. That's because we have loyal, dedicated fans that love our product, and it is up to us to keep producing a great show to keep those fans coming back--even in times of economic difficulties.

But the fans now have a responsibility, too. There has never been a time when we need you fans to be loyal to our corporate sponsors like now. The corporate dollar is tight right now for all sports and those sponsors need to see that return on their investment.

So when you have a choice to make for a purchase, service or to make a donation, make a list of all our PBR corporate sponsors and USE THEM!! If you are a true fan, you're stupid if you don't. Period.

The way it looks so far, I don't think there is one rider that is going to completely run away with the world title this year. I'm going to go out on a limb right now and make a prediction...A prediction? From me? Odd, I know. J.B., Lostroh, and Marchi will battle all year for the title.

I don't know who will win it, but it will be one of those three.

I went waaaaay out on a limb there didn't I?

I just think they are the ones who can settle into a groove as the tour gets long and grueling. And they are the ones with the experience and ability to ride the short-round bulls.

Put me on TV and call me Justin McKee!

But hold on. There are some guys out there that are looking awesome right now.

Where the heck did Austin Meier come from? He woke up and smelled the coffee! Ryan Dirteater? That kid cracks me up. He is just a great guy and can ride some tough bulls.

He and I talked at the end of last season and I told him he looked perfect for about 6.5 seconds. So what's the big deal for another second and a half? He's been finding that second and a half.

Oh, yeah, Renato and Valdiron will be in there and make an impact, too. You can count on that.

My lawyers are going to be in touch with my good friend Justin McKee. Sunday, January 25th was my birthday and the telecast showed LeAnn Hart singing to me in the arena in Dallas. Justin then wished me a happy 51st birthday.

If I can move like this when I'm 51 then I should get some kind of award!

It's hard enough at 41! So I think Mr. McKee slandered me on national television by saying I was ten years older than I really am. He's just jealous because he recently turned the big 4-0 and his legs don't even slightly resemble mine in quality.

I will think of some way to get back at him. Oh, yes, I will think of something.

I had my usual January marathon trip again this year--New York to Denver to Pueblo to Fresno to Sacramento. Ten shows in ten days in five cities.

Denver and Pueblo are great Enterprise tour events that I am not required to go to, but I contract independently. They are quality shows and many of our BFTS riders enter them to pad their pocket books a bit. Canter won close to $20,000 in Denver and Dirteater took about $5500 out of Pueblo. Pretty good week for those guys.

But, as usual, when I got home I suffered through a few days of bad sickness. I had strep throat, flu and all that fun stuff. Many of us ended up with it and Frank Newsom even ended up missing the Dallas event because he was so sick.

When one of the bullfighters misses an event because of sickness, you know he's sick. Frank is probably the toughest guy I have ever met, so I hope he's recovered and ready to go this week.

The holidays were great at my house, even though we suffered through record cold and heavy snow.

It was nice to be home for awhile and spend time with the family, but now I'm back in the touring groove and spending time with my "other" family: the production crew and all the office staff that tour with the PBR.

Those familiar faces every week are comforting when navigating new and strange cities.

Winston-Salem was a great stop for us last season and I'm looking forward to it again this year. I have always been entertained by the fan base in that part of the country. They are passionate and fun.

This will be our first stop ever with just 40 riders on the big tour.

It is definitely something new and I completely agree with it. It will tighten up the show for those of us involved in production and raise the bar for the guys trying to qualify for the elite tour. I love when we shake things up a bit.

Laugh Always, Flint

Thanks for setting the record straight about the age thing. When I heard McKee say 51 I flipped to your picture in the "Hunks of the PBR" calendar and thought "51? Dang, what are they pumping into that man?" Looking very handsome under that makeup, btw, Flint. Don't be too hard on McKee, I never would have guessed he was "only" 40. I would have said at least my age (46) or higher.....probably his "mature" hairline.

I totally am armed with a Daisy airgun and wear my Wranglers while driving my F-150 with the Cooper Tires and the B&W trailer hitch pulling my Big Tex trailer with an Exclusive Genetics bull in it while I patrol the border. While doing this, I of course am wearing my Dickies boots and swilling down the Jack Daniels... sometimes even while I'm chawing on Copenhagen.

Um... I have been to Las Vegas? I'm afraid that most of the sponsors are not aimed at my demographic (urban female). I'll see what I can do, though. ;)

My husband and I went to the 3 days of PBR event in Denver at the stock show and the 1 day at Pueblo. What a wonderful surprise to see that you were there. It felt like the Built Ford Tough series there. You were as good as ever. The girls and you at Pueblo were fantastic when you sang your song. I loved it at the nat'l finals but this production was extra special. 4 girl dancers and the trench coat was stylish. My husband thought you should have had 4 cowboys dancing for a different effect.
It impressed my friends that I picked up in Loveland. I got them hooked.
By the way when we travel to these events we always rent our car from Enterprise. I also thanked them at the rental office for being a supporter of the PBR. I also got a discount with my enterprise PBR card. I know the importance of supporting sponsors.
As far as your age, I consider 41 young. You do your job very well. Few rodeo entertainers match up to your talent.
Another note is the Denver stock show had many rodeos. There were many former BFT members riding in their bull riding events too. Jeana, ND

Dang Flint, now I have to call up my son Allan, who runs a spotlight at the Billings PBR and tell him, that you are young than he is, instead of older. LOL
When I heard you were 50, I thought you would probably be retiring back in good ole Montana soon. :)

Hey Flint! Can't wait for my 12 yr old daughter to readd you latest blog. She loves you!! We can't want to see you this weekend in Winston Salem! You certainly add alot to the BFTS events. And thanks for recognizing the awesome effots that Austin Meier & Ryan Dirteater have been putting out recently. Austin is a special favorite of mine, not only bcuz he's an amazing rider but bcuz he seems so humble. He's quiet but dangerous, ya know what I mean? And could Ryan BE any cuter?? What is he, 12??!! Too cute, man! I could just give him a noogie! He's adorable.

I always wondered what happens if/when you get sick during an event. Have you ever missed any? And if so, what do they do without you???!!! Just curious.

Anyway, as always keep up the outstanding work!! Can't wait to see you tomorrow night!!! WOO HOO!!!

Note to self: buy WRANGLERS when I get to goal weight (and maybe a few mid-way sizes, too)... Can't do Jack Daniels (not on the diet). And for the Daisy Red-Ryder, I'm the poster child for "you'll shoot your eye out". I shop at Cabela's, rent from Enterprise when I rent cars. I'll buy a Kershaw knife for self-protection, and a Jeffrey Scott magnetic bracelet. I KNOW those bracelets must work because every time I see the one in the Guilherme Marchi ad, I feel really good....

I'm looking forward to seeing you down the road at several events this year; and maybe I'll have a new KSDS pup at my side.

Flint I agree with you about supporting the sponsors of various events and local retailers. I needed tires on my car this winter so I told my husband to buy me Cooper tires. He laughed at me but later that day came home with Cooper tires on my car! I think we have Cabela's everything too. About the age thing, 41 or 51 it's only a number. Nobody said you had to be all "growed up" when you hit 40!

Hi Flint! I went to The Championship Round in Dallas for my 18th birthday. When Justin was wishing you a happy birthday my mom said she would give you your birthday spankings. hahaha. My moms nuts. She never really watches PBR except for the finals. I had to explain some things to her and we both think you did a great Micheal Jackson :) See you next year! ~Shanna~

Good point, Flint. And for those of us currently with our belts tightened up, if we aren't planning on buying anything soon, we can drop an email to the sponsors, thanking them. That helps, too.

Hey Flint thanks so much for calling me to dance at the PBR event in dallas, I love my buckle. I wish to be part of your show. I am already a big success here at Rodeo Grill, everyone asks me to dance like I did at the Rodeo.
