After a busy week of riding in New York, Denver and Pueblo, we flew on into Fresno, where Ryan McConnel picked us up at the airport in our van. Yes, that van. He drove us to the hotel and I got to thinking, Man, I really need to get this van back to Texas."
I called the airline and changed my flight home and got everything organized to where I could save my ticket and actually drive the van back to Texas from California after the weekend.
So Cody Ford and I decide this is what we're going to do--we're going to drive it down here together. After the Sacramento event we load it up, but first we have to drive it 12 hours north, from where the bull riding was, up to his house in Oregon.
He needed to get some stuff done and yesterday afternoon we leave there and Cody's driving the van. We only get about 20 miles down the road and we get pulled over.
We knew it was going to be a little dangerous for us to be driving the van across country because it doesn't have a license plate on it, it's not registered and it's not insured--simply because it's been sitting at Ryan McConnel's house and nobody's taken care of it.
We were hoping to do a lot of nighttime driving so that hopefully no one would notice we didn't have a license. Well, what do you know? They noticed.
He pulls us over and we're sitting on the side of the road when the officer asks us, "Where's your license plate?" So we have to tell him we don't one. Then asks to take a look at our proof of insurance card and, again, we tell him, "Well, we don't have one of those either."
Then he asks Cody Ford for his drivers license and, well, come to find out Cody doesn't have a drivers license. He only has an ID card.
Cody's pretty sure his ID should be good, but when the officer goes back to his car to run a check on his ID he discovers his drivers license is suspended. So he comes back up there and tells us the VIN numbers aren't matching up on the van, Cody's license is suspended, no license plate, no insurance and then one guy says he's from California and the other one is from Arkansas.
He's not painting a very good picture and we're starting to get nervous.
He made us get out of the van so he could search it and, as it turns out, some of the older bull riders used the van this past weekend in Sacramento because it was a free ride and they didn't have to pay for a cab. I guess while they were out they bought some extra beer and, well, guess where it ended up?
There was a six-pack under the backseat so the first thing the guy asks is how old we are? We tell him we're only 20 and then we explain to him that it wasn't ours.
We had to tell him everything so we told him how we bought the van in Cheyenne, drove it up to Canada, back down to Arkansas, over to New Mexico, out to California and that how we had to up to Oregon before heading down to Texas to a PBR bull riding this weekend.
I guess he either liked our story or he was a fan of bull riding.
In the end, all he did was give Cody a fine for driving with a suspended driver's license and then he told us to be careful. So now, hopefully, 1,500 miles later we'll be arriving in Dallas.
So as you're reading this, yes, we're still driving the van, but the infamous van will be in Dallas and if you have any questions or comments you can write it on post-it note and leave it on the window.
We're hoping for some suggestions because it is about be pimped out.
We're going to get it cleaned. We're going to put some screens in it and put some speakers in it. We're going to make sure everything is still good with the motor, which I don't see how anything could be going bad because it still gets 20 miles to the gallon and it easily does 85 down the highway.
After that--the van is actually going home with me.
At the bull riding this weekend we were all kind of sitting around – Cody Ford, Cody Campbell, Ryan Dirteater, Ryan McConnel, Clayton Williams and I – and we were going to try and get it to where one person owned the van by the end of the weekend, but no one wanted to sell their stock in the van so we're all still co-owners.
Seriously, it would be kind of an emotional time for any one of us to part with our ownership.
But, needless to say, it's going back to Texas with me and it's going to get taken care of courtesy of Clayton and me. Hopefully the next time people see the van there's no telling where it'll be.
It's not off the hook yet. It's also going to several other Built Ford Tough Series events--Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Birmingham, Nashville and Springfield. If, at some point, it changes hands to one of the other owners, it could end up at some events close to their house too.
And maybe we'll drive it to New York City next year.
There's no telling where you'll see the van. You just look for the white van with the pink pinstripes and the pink interior and you'll know we're there.
Please drive it to Tacoma. That could quite possibly make my year.
Thanks for the laugh.

Any chance of someone driving the van to Anaheim? I'd love to get a glimpse of it. It could possibly be the highlight of the weekend for me.
Inquiring minds want to know...
What about the $3,000 Ryan McConnel paid for the van after y'all got back to Cheyenne? How have all of you retained your shares of ownership? I feel like I'm missing a big chunk of the story here.
Best of luck with your riding and your classes.
I have to show this to Trey and Tye Allen and Wesley Cryer. They can sure relate. We are just getting Trey's van worked on at our big rig mechanic; and he just got his new plates so he will be good to hit the road.Till then they are using our pick-up.roflmao from your adventure.
You guys better hang on to that thing cuz it sounds like it's a crazy good luck charm! Can't wait to read what happens next...

I did not think you could top the last van story, but you sure did with this one. I could not stop laughing. You guys are too funny. I love your blogs. Have a good day and a better one tomorrow.
PS- My 11th grade students love the picture I got of you in Baltimore and they hung it up in the classroom! You are on the superstar board!
Could the van make a stop in New Mexico? I believe the fans are becoming as attached to it as you cowboys are with the stories you write about. Keep it up Reese and see you in New Mexico. Cheering for you always.
it was great seeing you and Cody again in NYC. I can see this turning into the Pink Striped Van Victory Tour. We have come up with a ton of ideas for tricking out the van on the TeamPBR message board and some of the girls are going to try to make sure that you get the list in Dallas. Get your act together paperworkwise before driving to NYC cause they would probably have locked you guys up here.
Good luck in the arena and on the road

"I can see this turning into the Pink Striped Van Victory Tour."
lol! I love it! And yes, Reese, since you invited people to stick post-its on the van with suggestions, you need to let us know how that turned out.
Also, if you should ever get married and have kids, you are going to have some great stories to tell them! They're going to love it as much as we do. How lucky you are to be living your dream and gathering such fun experiences along the way. We should all be so lucky.
funny story, i love it! :) You should bring the van to St.Louis.
Hope to see it in OKC & Tulsa !!
