I couldn't help but smile...

The summertime is good time for us to kickback, relax, take some time off and heal up, but this year, unfortunately, it's been a little different.

I just looked at the calendar and I think three weekends is all I have off before the PBR World Finals. The PBR has this new deal with ESPN for the Team Shootout events and I have quite a few touring pros to go to this summer. It's been a busy schedule for me this summer.

And, as a matter of fact, I looked at the standings today and looked at the points. I didn't actually look at the number of points Guilherme is out ahead of me – I know it's a bunch – but I got to thinking about how close I can get to him before the Finals.

Honestly I got to looking at it and a guy could go in there and win two events and those top six ahead of me get shut out and I'm sitting third in the world.

I know I'm capable because I've won three events in a month once before. I won two events in a row, was off one weekend and then came back and won another event. So I know anything is possible in this sport.

If I get to drawing the right bulls, get off my butt and ride and then I could be right in the middle of being a contender for a world title.

That kind of opened my eyes and made me smile this morning. I'm ready for Nashville gosh dog it.

In the meantime, we're going to a roping event this weekend and next week I'll busy helping Chris Shivers do his bull riding in Baton Rouge, the week after that I have the Team Shootout and then, what do you know, the next week is Nashville.

Speaking of Chris, he's doing great.

He's been having problems with his neck for quite awhile now and he's been complaining about it. He finally went and had an MRI done and they said he needed the surgery.

If I was to put money it I'd bet that he'll be at the Finals riding. Tandy said that if everything goes well he should be able to ride and I guarantee he's the kind of guy who's not going to want to miss the Finals.

I can bet he'll be ready to ride come the Finals time.

Well, that's all I have for right now. We're on vacation in North Carolina. My wife's family lives over here and we're just doing some visiting.

I'll try and let everyone know how things go with Chris's event before I head to Guthrie for the Team Shootout.

Atta boy Mike, right attitude, keep it up. Your rides lately have been great. See whining does not help, but getting the right mental attitude and keeping your butt on that bull does.

I'm rooting for ya, only don't ride Reindeer because then I can only root for Reindeer and watch him GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Great to hear from you again Mike! It really is going to be a busy summer for you, huh? I hope you take care of yourself (your neck) because the number of serious injuries this year has been staggering (for me anyway--this is only my second season watching, so there have probably been other seasons that were just as bad or worse). Thanks for the update on Chris, too.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation and good luck the rest of this year--I'd love to see you up there in contention for the title!

Thanks for checking in with us.

First I want to congratulate you on that awesome ride on Troubadour. Secondly, don't worry about throuwing your hat in the ring, because it's not what's on your head, but what's inside it that counts. You are a very personable young man. I look forward to seeing you ride at Mohegan Sun. I live in PA so it is not too far to go to see a PBR Event. Stay healthy and enjoy your vacation.

Mike, I say that your ride on 7 seconds in Montana says it all !! I've seen you ride the ranks ones for over 10 yrs. now and make it look like they're a carosuel ride at the county fair. I know that you will win that buckle / title before too much longer so if I were the other 44 riders I'd start watching you closely cause The Mighty One's time is coming and personally I can't wait to see you recieving the recongition you deserve and the look in your eyes as you are awarded the buckle will be priceless. Not to mention that killer smile of yours. I'm glad you are going on vacation & hope you and your wife and son have a great time togeather. You have a beautiful family. Stay healthy and we'll see you at the finals!! Oh thank you for sharing the news about Chris. I know he too will be competing at the finals and both of you will be in the short roundgoing for the gold!! Randi

Hi Mike, I just wanted to say I think you ride great. I started watching the PBR back in 1999. All of you guys are awesome, as well as the bulls. In all the years Ihave watched I have wanted to go to the finals.
This year I finally get to be there. I am excited that I will be able to see you ride. Your grit and the bulls athletic ability, has given me the determination to follow my dream and raise a bull good enough to make it to the pbr. To have the same caliber and pride it takes to shake it loose with the best in the world. Good Luck

Its great to hear from a Louisiana Native son. Thanks For the update on Chris. I Hs Rodeo with Corbin Carpenter and I was wondering if you could tell me if you know exactly how much money was raised for Corbin at the bulls barrels and team Roping event held a couple weekends back at chris's Arena for this young cowboy who was seriously injured at the NHSFR this past July.
It is great to hear from you keep Up the good work and good luck and keep your chin down and your chest out.

And I was saying your ride on 7 seconds was proof. Well I guess Troubador just reafirms that you are still one of the greatest bull riders of all time and your buckle is waiting for you. Just keep riding and keep smiling and we will see you in the winners circle @ the finals before too much longer!!! Love Ya!!!! P.S. You are just as sexy without your hat as you are with it !!!!
