That was a big building – huge.
I don't know if those of you who were watching on TV could tell how they do that, but they actually cut the Alamo Dome in half and put the chutes on the 50 yard line and we play to one end, which a big end.
As a matter of fact there were two full sets of chutes so it was really, really big.
Anyway Valdiron just manhandles those bulls and Guilherme is just so dominate so here's the deal Marchi is having a great year point wise, but so did McBride last year.
There's a difference, however, between the two.
Marchi may have a bigger lead, but what we're not seeing – and it may happen – are the number of 90-point riders, number of big moments and the number of event wins so, to me, the seasons are different.
And Marchi is doing what he's always done: nothing flashy. He just rides a lot of bulls.
But as far as highlights go Travis Briscoe on Grey Dog was the best ride of the weekend. He was not scored the best ride, but he was early in the round and sometimes the judges might be just a little reserved to throw out a big score early on in case there are a lot of other big rides.
That was a huge ride.
Now in the short round that was a terrible set of championship bulls to have a bull draft--from a commentator's standpoint. We had nothing to talk about. There was nothing controversial about those bulls.
They were as even a set of short round bulls going into that. It's was unbelievable. The 15th bull could have just as easily been gone first. They were all outstanding.
So I say this in tongue and cheek – for those of you who don't get humor – that was the worst set of short round bulls ever, especially for a draft.
Like I said, the 15th bull could have very easily been picked first and nobody – I mean nobody – would have said otherwise.
Otherwise it was a quick weekend – kind of in and out.
What do you think of Reindeer Dippin, he's my favorite bull
I agree with your comment about the season to some extent. But I think Guilherme is flashy! Just look at that last ride. He was spurring like crazy and in total control until he "almost" got bucked and made an absolutely fantastic adjustment to regain control! (THat, my friend, should have won him the round and the title!) I've seen that happen to Justin McBride except that he just hung on to the side of the bull (on more than one occasion) and won two world titles doing it! He couldn't make the needed adjustment to get back in control. That is not flashy riding!
I,and I know a lot of other fans feel the same, are getting tired of "The Justin McBride Show" and "The Justin Fest" that has been going on in the booth all year. Listen to the crowd. Do you hear the boos almost EVERY time a score comes up for Guilherme? Isn't it about 8 seconds?
There have been way too many 90+ point rides for mediocre rides--mostly on bulls that do nothing but spin.
Personally I don't care for the rag-doll style of ride that Travis Brisco and Renato Nunes get super high scores on. These two seem to be the opposite of Guilherme and Valdeiron. Everyone in-between seem to be scored more fairly.
Since the PBR is an international event, the PBR administrators went to Brazil, Mexico, Canada, and Australia to recruit riders, when will the PBR have international judges?
With all due respect to you, who I just love listening to during the events, and Justin McBride, who is an amazing rider deserving of his titles, it's getting kind of frustrating to hear how Guilherme's season is comparing to Justin's last year. I'm not even sure if you all are aware of it, but it has happened a lot. Many times it has been implied, if not outright stated that Guilherme's run for the title would not be going as well if Justin had been riding this year. In fact, I remember one instance where Justin's absence was being factored into the fact that *everyone* was riding well this year. If I remember correctly, at one time Justin even had to step in and say "No. Guilherme and all of these guys are simply great riders." [/paraphrased]. Can't we just let Guilherme enjoy this season without all of the comparisons? Justin will be back soon enough. Even without the event wins and 90 pt rides, I'm finding this season--especially Guilherme's part in it--to be very exciting.
As for the short-go, I think it was obvious that the guys are ready for a break. It wasn't as entertaining as usual. You did your best, as always, but the humor just wasn't there, save for Wiley--he was great.
I hope you enjoy your time off. I'm looking forward to Orlando!
Been missing your blogging.
There have been a lot of comments the last couple of days about the announcing team.
I have been waiting for your post before I tossed my 2 cents worth into the discussion. Yolanda and I enjoyed it more than any other TV event we have seen this year! We thought everyone was really in sync with each other and the open teasing showed a comfort level and playfulness.
I think as the year has progressed the braodcasts commentary has improved significantly. Thank you.
I wish we had taken the opportunity to say thank you in person as you were arriving at the Marriott in Kansas City.
The draft has also improved as the year moves along. I'd love to see it at every event.
Miscellaneous:
Guilherme the Great! The guy is just better than everyone else this year. He deserves the title and I hope he gets it this year. He isn't my favorite rider but I can appreciate excellence in any forum. I am enjoying his performance as a once in a lifetime achievement.
It is nice to see Travis get his mojo going again.
We all feel Matt Bohons frustration and pain and hold our breath as he comes out of the chute.
Looking forward to Travis and JW back where they belong.
Savoring Adriano's and Ednei's farewell performances.
We love the spot with Adriano and the meanest bull that wasn't. It belongs on the most notable rides and wrecks of Adriano;s career (We saw that non-ride at Sacramento).
Cheers and take care, Don in Walnut Creek, CA
As I understand it, when that bull finally bucked, it jerked Adriano so badly that it severely injured his back.
22th? How about 22nd?
