I was pretty excited about having a good bull in the first round and in a one-night deal like that knowing that you get to pick your bull for the short round is pretty exciting. Boy did I waste a great opportunity. I was pretty disappointed in my performance.
I felt it was pretty pathetic, to tell you the truth, it was horrible.
I was going great in the chute and then they opened the gate. I don't know, I've been getting on some practice bulls lately – here at the house – and everything feels great and I've been riding good, but then go them bull ridings and I really think I'm trying too hard.
I'm wanting to win so bad that I'm trying too hard and I'm not having fun like I should be.
Any bull rider will tell you – ask Justin McBride or Guilherme Marchi – if you're not having fun then you're not going to do any good. You have to put out the effort and try, but if you over do it you're killing yourself. You just have to go have fun and do what you do.
I've been trying too hard and wanting to stay on and it's just taking its toll on me right now. If you think about it you get to worrying about it and things aren't going to go your way. You have to just forget about it and go do what you know you can do, and that's get on bulls and ride bulls.
All of us guys know what we can do or we wouldn't be where we're at. And we didn't get there by thinking about it.
It's just one of them deals. It's aggravating to get on a bull like I did in San Antonio and fall off and the gateman asks you to get up so they can shut the gate. It's frustrating.
I paid for today. My personal trainer about killed me because I embarrassed him too.
I hate to sound cocky, but I know I ride better than the performance I've been putting out. It's ridiculous. It really is horrible and I'm disappointed in myself because I know I can do a better job then what I've been doing and I need to get on the ball and get it done.
I buck bulls here at the house every Tuesday and I have kids that get on. I help them out and here lately I've been getting on with them because I need to.
There are five kids who live close by and one of them is doing pretty good. He's going to be buying his permit pretty soon. He's been coming out to my house for three years and he couldn't ride past the end of the chute gate when he started. He has no talent what so ever, but he's got a heart bigger than the state of Texas.
He'll get on seven or eight bulls and he loves it, craves it. He's been going to some rodeos and winning and he's about ready to buy his permit and start going to some bull ridings.
I enjoy helping all five them.
So I'm going to get on some more practice bulls this week and next week I'm going to take a vacation, but I'll come back the week after that and I've got my bull riding kinder and I'll be working on that and hopefully we'll get things turned around before Orlando.
Enjoy the break and come back and have fun--who cares win or lose, we already know you're one of the best. Stay well.
I've seen when one of you guy's do good, the other step's it up too , there still a lot of season left , so get your little buddy back out there and you guy's start kicking butt like you both can do !
Thank you for including the story about the kids you are helping. It was something I didn't know and it's always nice to hear about another side of a rider's life. You all seem to have such great hearts and spirits.
Enjoy your vacation and good luck in Orlando!
Now honker your butt to the next bull and ride him
But don't ride Reindeer Dippin he's my favorite
You hit the nail on the head - relax and have fun with it. You've got a ton of talent - the riding part will take care of itself. Enjoy the break here before Orlando - I have a good feeling that when you get on there you're going to do really well! See you in Tulsa!
I bet by the time you get to Orlando you'll be able to ride the hair off of a pink polka-dotted flying buffalo!
Enjoy the time off with your family!
Enjoy your vacation, get some rest, rope some steers and when you get to Orlando give that first one a spur bath for me. See ya in the short round

I have been watching you ride for years. The key is to stay healthy. If you could have done that you would have already been a world champ. You have great riding skills. Just try not to think of the money or the title and have fun. You know your one of the best so just keep your hand close and get off that bull at the right time and place.
