I thought this was interesting...

A story that won't be picked up by a lot of people, but I mentioned during the telecast, and that is: North Star, Far North and Northern Chill – all in the Ford Championship round – are all full brothers born the same year out of the same cow.

They're flush mates and what that means is there was a cow that was stimulated to super ovulate, which means put out more eggs than just one and was artificially inseminated.

Then they flush those embryos that are fertilized into a tube and then sort those embryos out and put those embryos into separate cows, which are called recipient cows. They carry the embryo, have the calf and raise the calf.

This is out of the same cow and it's incredible to have three championship round bulls that are full flush mates. They're sired by Julio Moreno's bull Whitewater out of an ordinary ranch cow – not a bucking bred cow.

I just thought that was an interesting side note for those of you who are into the breeding. That's a phenomenal story right there.

I picked up on that in the telecast and thought it was pretty cool. That is pretty amazing that there would be three GREAT bulls (in the short go) out of the same flush. Thank for the tid bits on stuff like that!! By the way, you did another great job on the draft!!

I've been showing cows (dairy) for years. It always amazes me how much calves from a flush, or even successive years of breeding can be so much alike when one figures in how genetics fit together. One of my friends had a flush that netted her five or six heifers. She showed them for produce of dam and they stood 1, 2, and 3 as pairs. And to take a flush of a ranch cow and make three top bulls like those is just spectacular.

Justin;
Thanks for the great job you do, as a cowman I have always enjoyed how you have mixed in tidbits about the other half of the event, the bulls. Genetics are extremely interesting,in some ways not very predictable, and flushes are not noted as being extremely similar like you would expect. The color difference in the full brothers is also very interesting, plus the fact that they are by just a ranch cow, not a bucker, leaves the door open for breeding programs to be started. I enjoy your insight very much, thanks for it all. Mike Lee did everything he could to get a great score on White Magic, I think the bull had a slightly off day, but how much of that was WM not knowing what to do after not bucking the rider of at two seconds, JW covered that on the telecast and was spot on. Take care keep up the great work. Brian Arp

I did not see the telecast, so I am thrilled you brought it up here.

Wow. Amazing science we have these days.

What an accomplishment for the breeder.

Thank you for always sharing interested breeding and pedigree information for us.

I am a fan of the Bulls, I appreciate every ounce of information you give us on them.

I think that's incredible.I have a cow hee , a herd cow not bucking bred who has produced three full brothers and a half brother who are all good buckers and even her heifers buck.I am looking into a flush for her.Her babies are incredible.
Love your comments about the bull side of the bull biz.
