Even when we don't have the top guys involved in the race for the world championship – Marchi, Lostroh or even McBride, because he's hurt – it's always great to see guys who have struggled grab the headlines. Luke Synder and Ross Coleman have done it and now the next guy is Brian Canter.
I'll say this: that ride on Hot Stuff – that's Page's Hot Stuff because we have two and this is the younger, newer one – that bull bucked as hard for six seconds as I've seen. This could have been another 94, 95, 96 point ride for Brian, but the bull weakened just a little bit after six seconds.
If that bull had bucked just as hard for the last two seconds, in my opinion, I was seeing a 95 and it still was a 92.5. That bull was number two at the classic finals last year, which is the competition for three and four-year-old bulls in the ABBI.
Here's something else--he's a Mudslinger out of a Brokeback Five cow.
Speaking of bulls! I think I saw a video of the world's meanest ever last night. This may be old hat to many of you but I have only been a fan for about half of last year and now this year.
Anyhow, I was spinning the dial on the TV (Well, not literally. but do some of you remember when TV's had dials and your parents would yell at you for "spinning the dial" because you would wear out the contacts?).
So - I'm spinning the dial - and ran across a little advert for a show called "Most Daring" and one of the things that was going to be on was a bull rider incident. Since it was going to start in 10 minutes I tuned in. I don't know how old it was but it involved Chris Shivers and a bull named Shorty! Man, talk about a MAJOR train wreck.
As Chris was thrown the bull caught his head with a horn and knocked him out before he hit the dirt. Then the bull deliberately turned on Chris and was trying to grind him into the ground and gore him. I didn't recoginse the bullfighters but the bull pretty much ignored them trying to distract Shorty. It sent chills up my spine.
Finally, the bullfighters distracted the bull but he wouldn't leave the arena. A bunch of guys got to Chris and with all of the surrounding Chris and on their knees Shorty just took off and ran right throuhg the crowd around Chris (It looked like bowling pins flying everywhere.) And agian, the bull ignored everyone who had surrounded Chris and Shorty went after Chris again. For whatever reason Shorty had something personal against Chris.
They finally got the bull out of the arena and could attend to Chris. Man did they get an IV into him ASAP. There were severl very grpahic shots of Chris' head and face. Obviously it wasn't pretty.
The utterly amazing thing was as Chris was carried from the arena on a stretcher he raised his hand and with one finger pointed upward. The whole arena was on its feel cheering Chris.
Man, I have seen some ugly things but that was UGLY!

It certainly has been an exciting season so far. Rides that I'll remember well from this season already are Travis', Guilherme's, Renato's and now Brian's. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds.
Someone get a handle on this,if ABBI is a real registry they will be like other legitimate registries and allow a name to be used once.
Same for PBR the bull should be known as PAGES HOT STUFF.....
The station that ran it was something called "truTV" and the show was "Most Daring". I didn't even know I had truTV on my cable line-up. Just pure luck that I found it.

Speaking of loving this sport so much, does anyone know why Adriano is not on the draw this weekend?
Kinda figured by the time I got to my computer and the blog there would be postings and comments about Billings (I'm on the West Coast)? But - nothing?
I think it is fantastic that Zack Brown won, given his history there, and that last ride will be one we see on replays for awhile.
Cody Lostroh and LJ sure missed opportunities to close the gap on Marchi. In the end I want Marchi to finally get his title, but as a sportsman it would be great if there were a bit more excitement in the race. Yeah, yeah, it is early in the season but still - today is today.
Cheers all, Don
