On the road again...

I've said this before, but it's always fun to drive even though it's six-hour drive to Omaha. It's not that I hate flying, but anytime I don't have to fly I like to take advantage of that because I hate crowds of people at the airport security lines.

Well, hate's kind of a harsh word, but it is kind of nice to get out on the road and I consider that a home game.

I had some company to go with me. Danny Lemmons is my neighbor. I raised a bull called Splat Cat and sold him to Danny a few years ago. He's been on the tour and done well so we loaded Splat Cat up and away we went to Omaha.

When we got there the weather was a little different than it was in Oklahoma. It pretty much stayed 32 degrees and snowed all weekend in Omaha and the wind was blowing 40 miles an hour, but once we got up there and got Splat Cat settled in we grabbed us room and we were inside for the event so it didn't matter.

It was fun.

Dustin Elliott, the guy I sponsored a couple weeks ago, he ironically drew Splat Cat and was second in the round with an 88, so that was fun. Then L.J. Jenkins was 87 points and fourth in the second round.

That always makes it fun.

The other activity for the weekend was that Mark Ward and Donald Owens put on an auction at the Qwest Center on Saturday morning, and I was the auctioneer.

David Simpson from Diamond S bought a bull from Marvin Nixon for $19,000 and I'm kind of excited to track him and see what he does. That was kind of the high point of the sales.

I thought that was a bargain because Cody Lambert came up there--he had seen that bull buck and he had marked him a 22.5 and said it would be in the short go that night if he were there. With those kinds of accolades a bull ought to bring twice that.

I don't see anybody selling a short round bull for under $50,000.

I know I am going to say a bad word here....
However I will say it outloud. We are in a recession.

Diesel here is $4.59 a gallon. So much of what we purchase as consumers is trucked.

Alfalfa hay is 18.95 a bale, and Bermuda Grass 15.95 a bale.

I think we are just at the start of the recession and things are going to get worse.

That being said sounds like someone got a bargain on that bull. That is if $19,000 is disposable income.
I wish I had that kind of disposal at hand!
