Who do you think has been the best bull this year?

It's a amusing how things change because now we can go to the west coast – and a lot of this has to do with the bull teams – but we can out there and see a lot of the top bulls, and not too long ago that was not the case.

That's pretty amazing.

When it comes to bull of the year you have to look at the scores from throughout the season and, to me, it looked like Charlie Bullware was a contender, but I wasn't at the Tulsa event where he hipped himself when he came out of the chute and had a bad day.

Well, you can't have a bad day and be a World Champion bucking bull.

Chicken on a Chain and Jacob's Pet, which to me were two of the three front runners, ruined their chances so they're shot last week. With Jacob's Pet that was just horrible and I was on that bandwagon.

But, I guess, from the get-go I always thought the top bull was Troubadour and he has not had a bad day. So I really think it's going to be between Troubadour and Voodoo Child.

I don't think White Magic is in there and, honestly, I thought 90.25 was plenty on that bull. I thought that the score was inflated. All In has seven outs – one more than Troubadour and one more than White Magic – so I think you have to throw All In in there.

Of course, my sentimental favorite is Copperhead Slinger.

You know who else has had a great year is Party Time. There's your sleep and he would be the most underrated candidate for bull of the year.

In wrapping up if I were voting White Magic would drop down and so would Copperhead Slinger, which would just leave more room for Troubadour and All In.

Throughout the year I've mentioned so many advantages to the bull teams upping the caliber of bulls on the east coast and west coast, but I wonder if that doesn't have a negative effect on some of the top bulls that are traveling further now because of some of the bull teams then they used to have to travel.

In the past a top stock contractor could kind of decline those long hauls therefore his top bull might look better because he's not having to travel as far. You know what? I might be on to something there or at least its fodder.

Everybody likes the bull team, but – of course – the other argument is this: a great bull, such as a bull of the year type, is going to be a winner no matter where he goes, no matter how muddy, no matter what the ground, no matter how far... there's no excuse.

A great bull is going to perform no matter what.

Now, I contradict myself but I'm just pointing out the two sides to the argument. And that's what this is for... to give you something to talk about.

I think Justin, Copper Head Slinger should be bull of the year, he gets ridden, but it's always a very high score and he bucks like I like to see a bull buck. Not just going around in a circle into the riders hand, I get tired of watching that kind of ride. I like the Hammer and LYJ type of bucking and as most know I am a Reindeer Dippin fan to the core. love that bull and never thought the Judges gave him the credit he deserved when he bucked. He was like lightening coming out of the chute and the cowboys could not ride him. He's being retired because no one will get on him anymore. Here's to Copperhead slinger and Reindeer Dippin.

I always love hearing what you have to say about the bulls, Justin! But, being from Washington state I am looking for some our breeders up here to make the grade in bull of the year contention. Troubador is the most exciting to watch, in my opinion, but I absolutely love the LOOKS of Copperhead Slinger. I haven't heard anything about Deja Blue lately: what's up with him?

In my opinion it would be Troubadour or Copperhead Slinger. Probably Troubadour. He has some amazing outs and seems to always be on his game.

Why can a rider have a many bad days out and still be champion and a bull can't have a bad day, due to travel, cold, heat, not felling up to par, as humans do. I think this should all be taken into consideration when judging a Championship bull. Take the all over average the bull has, not just a couple bad days. I also think more than one man should be picking the pen of bulls.

Some nights the pen was lousy, not worth watching, especially when they are trying out new bulls. If I watch I want to see the and I mean THE bulls bucking, the top ones, not the wanna be's Do that as a side affair but not air it like a great PBR event. Over 90% of the bulls shown were not up to caliber of the PBR.

We don't get to see half of the good bulls bucking. Only once in a while. How can we judge a couple you named when we don't get to see them buck only a couple times during the year?

DUDE!
Troubadour is Bull of the Year., no bout a doubt it!
If he don't win, whoever is judgin, just ain't watchin...

Justin, Dude! Troubadour IS Bucking Bull of the Year! I have not seen that boy have a bad day yet. If he dosen't win it, the Judges just ain't watchin! I think someday we will see his picture right next to Bodacious and Little Yellow Jacket, two of the best there has ever been...

I like Troubadour and Copperhead Slinger, but I think Troubadour is the better of the two.
# Posted By Amibeth | 10/3/08 12:34 AM
marchi has been the best bull rider all year!!
# Posted By Joyce | 10/3/08 2:07 AM
If Troubadour doesn't falter, I think he'll easily be number one this year. Next year I'm looking forward to seeing Crosswired. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a contender in 2009. It's been great seeing so many rank debut bulls recently like Crosswired but also Kung Fu Panda, Tahonta's Shadow and many more. The bulls just seem to get better and better every year.

Wait, I thought you had to have the name Teague somewehre in your ownership to be named Bull of the Year.

I gave up caring about Bull of the Year after Blueberry Wine was denied all those years, when he deserved it so much.

I have no idea what has happened with the infllated bull scores over the last few years.I totally agree about that 90.25 on White Magic being a bit much. I really like that bull, but I thought scores should be based on performance, not repuation.

It would be nice to see the Moreno family win Bull of the Year.

I think Say I Won't Gunner is one of the best this year. JB pulled a 93.25 on him. Great Buckin Bull. Troubadour is obviously one of the best, too.
# Posted By Shawn | 10/5/08 8:35 PM
Justin, I have been waiting for you to make a joke about OJ Simpson getting arrested at the Palace Station Hotel, don't let me down! At least now I no why that bull has the name Palace Station Dueces Wild.
# Posted By Heather | 10/17/08 9:38 PM
There are so many great bulls now. I think in the future bulls will have to have a minumun number of outs and not just show up towards the last. To be ousted after a failure when the bull has bucked his heart out many times is just nuts. Then use a bull, good as he may be, that has not been out that much...... for sure a new way of judging has got to be found for bull of the year.

I saw Mike White's ride on Troubadour and he earned the title Bull of the Year. I have yet to see him have a bad day.
# Posted By pbrfanatics | 10/21/08 2:08 PM
Copperhead Slinger. Hes got the action to be the 2008 WC Bucking Bull. Hes NEVER had a bad out. 95+ ride this year, and several in the high 92+ as well.. he' make his sire the 2006 WC Bull of The Year( Mudslinger) a very happy daddy! go Slinger.
# Posted By bethany | 10/23/08 1:45 PM
Does anyone know what happened to Reindeer? He has disappeared.
# Posted By TOM FAYE | 10/24/08 4:35 PM
Justin, Reindeer Dippin is the most exciting bull out there. Why is he not competing. He would have been bull of the year if givin a chance.
# Posted By TOM FAYE | 10/24/08 4:38 PM
Love the bulls, and the competitors. Gotta love the young Bull " Woodpecker Lips "
# Posted By kiwidog | 10/24/08 8:29 PM
Bones... Teague's Bones will win bucking bull of the year... Its no fluke if Troubador wins it but i am sayin with the bulls that are up for runnin' Bones is the rankest... He'll be rode sometime... But don't expect it to be in the near future... Troubador, he's been ridin'...
# Posted By Carlos Garcia | 10/24/08 11:36 PM
I'm still shocked White Magic's not in there! Troubador is awesome, Slinger awesome and sentimental favorite. I call it a toss-up with my heart to Slinger.
# Posted By Jackie | 10/26/08 4:15 PM
White Magic, Troubadour or Copperhead Slinger should get the nod. I's vote for Copperhead personally. They are all great
# Posted By Randy Parsons | 10/27/08 2:34 PM
There are some great bulls out there, I too favor Reindeer Dippin and White Magic. They both expload when they come out of the chute. As far as the scoring of the bulls it should be done on an average, using the amount of times that bull has been out and his scores. If a bull has been out 20 times and had one or two bad outs, compared to a bull that has been out 5 times and no bad days. Bulls get hurt and sore just like the bull riders. It can't be easy on them traveling in trucks like they do in all kinds of weather and altitudes. My pick is White Magic and my favorite bull rider is Mike Lee. Good Luck Mike!!!

What the hell? Avalanche comes back from an almost career ending injury, and has had a perfect 100% buckoff this year. This is the bull of the year!
# Posted By Kyle Violet | 10/29/08 2:59 AM
Hands down Troubador!!Bones is incredibal and will be in the hunt next year !
# Posted By HAD1cattleCo. | 10/31/08 8:35 PM
I love to watch Toms bull BONES! But hands down Troubador is the bull of the year!
# Posted By HAD1 | 11/1/08 6:00 AM
In round 2 they said one of the bulls had two sons at the PBR World Finals, I think the bull was Bones. Does anyone know which bull it was and the names of his two sons? Thanks.
# Posted By Jo Ann French | 11/2/08 3:32 AM
It's splittin' hairs. They're all prime beef. But I'd have to commit to....Bones! He's hinged at the spine it seems. He's near vertical, then bam...his hind-end hinges up and forward, and before the Rider knows it, he's scrabblin' for the rails.
# Posted By Nick | 11/2/08 1:01 PM
What about Bones, granted I haven't got to see every out but that dude looks like the buckinest one out there. troubadour is a great bull but it looks to me like everybody rides him, if you stub your toe he will get ya but he sure looks like he rides good, Bones on the other hand doesn't look like he would ride that good

Justin McKee,
I listened all last year and this year the unnecessary remarks you have made about Adriano Moraes. Shame on you for criticizing the greatest champion of all time. This is his last year and no one has done more for the sport of bull riding.
In the first round of the World Championship you made a point of Adriano being long in the tooth and the bull, Black Smoke having surgery and not bucking like he had before.
It is just these little remarks that irritate the fans of Adriano, they are not necessary. There is no other bull rider that is more highly respected, has the passion for the sport, gives better interviews, signs more autographs, poses for more pictures and gives his full attention to ALL of his fans. He has not failed to promote and advertise for the PBR in every aspect to help the growth of the sport. That is not counting all the records he holds plus being the only Three Time World Champion.
The PBR should feel oh so lucky that he has been riding for fifteen years and given so much of his life to the sport.
The first night of the championships as much as I respect Ty Murray for all of his contributions and explanations in every aspect of the sport, I felt sick listening to the praises for Justin McBride. I just do not think that Justin McBride is any better than Adriano when Adriano was his age or even when Adriano was older. I do not think that Adriano gets the accolades he deserves in the same sentence with Justin.
You announcers need to calm down with trying to make someone more of a star over the other 45 bull riders. We the fans can see and tell who is the best and who shows us the respect of knowing WE are a big reason for the growth of the sport. A bull rider like Adriano makes us want to turn on the televison and watch the sport and tell all of our friends WOW you should watch this great sport, because he has never failed to greet each of his fans like he cares. He is a true class act and I am sorry to say Justin has not showed that side of himself for the almost 5 years I have been to events and watched the sport on television.

The PBR lost a true bull rider when Adriano walked out of the arena the last time. I will never forget him. Thanks Adriano for all the good memories.
I miss him already.

Adriano was the best--Thanks for the memories!! you'll never be forgotten!!

I wish there were an award for Best Commentator...I don't think you would have much to worry about in garnering that accolade. I am very tired of hearing about lack of "putting out the effort." How do Ty and JW know???

If the PBR wants to be thought of like other professional sports, Ty and JW need to cut the criticism. In reality, it just makes them look bad. At least Ty is a former world champion, and a killer businessman. I was thrilled when JW retired - hubby and I got bored watching him get thrown off every week. We have been watching since 2005, we were shocked he stayed on tour!! Before turning commentator, JW seemed like such a nice guy. Not anymore.

In one of his criticisms, he belittled Luke Snyder for just concentrating on BFTS events. Oh wait! JW managed to stay on tour by riding in lesser events! He sure sounds jealous!

Additionally, we got very tired of listening to him make comments about Adriano Moraes. Let's see - 3 World Championshipsfs to 0. AND the last one was when Adriano was 6 years older than JW!

Let's review JW's record. In the last 4 years before retiring : 2007 - 20%; 2006 - 30%; 2005 - 30%; and 2004 - 19% of bulls ridden. So where are his stats that make him such an expert?? Since 1999, he only had 2 years riding more than 40%!!!

I am very surprised that Justin McBride hasn't taken him aside and told him to clean up his act. Justin never criticized other riders. His philosophy was that he competed against the bull. Tell JW to stick to his self-deprecating humor. It makes him much more likable!!

Justin McKee - YOU ARE A STAR!! We LOVE listening to you! You are wonderfully articulate and funny!! But what happened to Michael Gaffney??? He is so much better than JW!!!

I know - you can tell Dennis MIller is a favorite of mine!! I have never written a blog or comment in my life until now. You can tell I am really bothered by this issue!

Thanks!

Last nights event was alwful-Mike Lee and Pete Farley tied for the lead and then they had to come along and put shivers in there with them, plus make his the ride of the night..wasn't fair to Mike or Pete..i am not a Shivers fan...

I would like to comment and say that I have enjoyed your new program "PBR NOW". However, it would sure be nice to see someone different than we see and havea to listen to almost every week - J. W. Hart! We get enough of his know it all comments on air during the PBR events! Was fun though to see him try to cover his big mouth when he interviewed Cody Lostroh. You guys comments are trying to play with Cody's head - he'll be 3rd for sure. I loved him telling you he didn't give a rat's behind how you felt! That's exactly how most of the fans feel - we can make up our own minds, we don't need you guys telling us what is going to happen! Also, Justin McBride needs to get a life! He quit bull riding so quit trying to get bull riding fans to make keep him going. It's so unfair to fans to have him shoved down their throats - he's going to be at TWO after events and the names for other events still aren't even available. He's on PRR NOW, tries to announce during PBR events and says he schedules his "concerts" only where the PBR fans will already be! Good grief, if he wants to be a singer then make it on his own like everyone else does. Quit hanging on to the PBR's shirt tail. We certainly don't hear this much about all the other great riders that retired. Enough of Justin McBride already!
# Posted By Glenna Stephens | 10/12/09 6:40 PM
Glenna Stephens , you need to quit being a hater. Many PNR fans do like Justin Mcbride. If you do not that is fine, this is america. Why would anyone such as yourself be hating on any of these guys. They are doing the best they can and we can as fans can choose to watch or not. One more thing, When these guys retire from riding bulls they do not quit promoting the PBR.
